So after 7 hours and turning this cage building into a giant family operation, we finally finished!

In total honesty, this was WAY too frustrating for me and felt impossible to finish. Mostly because of the lack of instructions in the first place then the really basic and general and pretty much unreadable online instructions...
My only issue was that some of the holes were too small for the screws and other pieces had already been chipped away but those were really minor things.
The end result was pretty satisfying and totally worth it though!!!!

Was expecting it to be done in three hours, but at least they had time to go soak up some sun and fresh wind for a few hours!

The final set up! (Will try get a better and much much much clearer picture tomorrow) They look so tiny in there, I love it!

The paper towel is only there because the top piece wouldn't fit with the screws so I had to zip tie it into place and cover it.

And of course, the first place they decide to go is where all the food is.

The left half of the cage is mostly toys and foraging items

And Ravensgryf, I left the middle open since I'm thinking of making them sleep on the left side --- so it'll be safer in case of night frights

The left side is pretty much the eating side, and hopefully where they decide to sleep

They've spent the last 4 hours flying back and forth so they're finally settling down. I'm beyond happy that Arrow and Esther are starting to get more adventurous by foraging and going on swings (which they've never done before).
[[And because I don't want to keep adding threads, I'll put this here]]
But I'm pretty worried about Arrow now that Esther declared Ducky as his mate and just kicked Arrow out. About two weeks ago, she would allow me to grab her (to transport her into the travel cage) and has been looking down a lot. Just tonight, Ducky started picking at her to get off of the rounded swing, and she's been avoiding the birds quite a lot now. I'm thinking it's because of the uneven flock number (5), and I've been pondering whether or not I shook take the 50/50 and add in another male to hopefully bond with her since everyone else has "someone". I'm still looking at what to do, but any suggestions would be great.

That is a great set up. They look happy in there. I don't have any advice for poor Arrow, hopefully you get that all figure out so she isn't odd man out.

It looks amazing! Your budgies must be thrilled with their brand new mansion! All your hard work and planning really paid off.

I think I'd give them some time, now that they have the extra space the new problem with Arrow may work itself out.

You have a beautiful flock.

The cage looks fantastic!
I agree with Allee, hopefully the problem will work itself out now that they have so much space.

Yay! I'm so glad you finally have it finished :). It looks nice, and I'm glad the little guys are loving it. Did you get the bottom grates and are just not using them?

As Allee mentioned, it might just work out (with Arrow) once everyone gets more used to the environment. Shirre (getwozzy) also has an uneven number of budgies in a flight cage, and one doesn't have a mate, but it works out okay. After everyone is settled, then assess whether you might want to add another guy or not. Budgies are so cute they're addicting! :)

I did! It came with the first box, but because of the size of the cage, I decided to cover the grates to keep the cage a lot cleaner. And I use less water when I clean the cage!

I'm still beyond thrilled! Everyone seems to be way more active and I finally have space to add in a few bird baths I've been dying to get earlier.

I'm really hoping that it all works out, she seems a lot more independent right now and is just minding her own thing.

Agreed! I REALLY want to add in another, but I have to keep reminding myself that I already have the most I'll allow myself and everything else that may happen in a 5 year span..but if I have to...i have to...:54::54::54:

Lol look at you and your addiction already in full swing! Sometimes uneven numbers are fine, but I personally have noticed less fighting when there is an even number, even if they don't actually pair off. However, k also agree that it is best to wait and give everyone a chance to settle down first and see if things just work out.

Oh, and I also suggest looking for a tame budgie to adopt. Adding a wild budgie to a flock that small can influence them as it will be more frightened when you are working on the cage. It's not like so,e hard and fast rule, but you know, it's a small island with a lot of free budgies and some of them are tame :)

You have three male budgies and two female budgies, but you think two males have paired up, is that what I'm reading? Are you sure they are actually pairing off, and not just doing the budgie flirt? Because by the numbers I would think add another female if you add anything, but if two males are actually pairing off it could be that that is not the best bet.

I definitely want to wait on it, I want to check back by the end of the year and decide then, if not maybe earlier.

And if I do, I'm going to make sure its the last bird I'll get for a LONG time haha! I'm already thinking a male. But it's so interesting to hear about that, so far they seem easily influenced so I'm gonna have high hopes LOL

If I'm remembering correctly, Esther is your only boy?

I believe so, I totally forgot to ask if they were DNA'd sexed or not, but the cares do seem kind of off for Ducky and Kratos (now named Cubby) to be males.

Silversage, Amjokai, could you help me clarify haha?

Yeah, Ducky and Esther are doing everything together now. They don't allow each other to get too far away without one another. They're also pretty keen on scaring Arrow away by trying to lunge and moving near her. Not exactly sure if they are pairing or not, but I did see some regurgitation earlier and a lot of saliva....

I definitely need more consideration on what I'm going to do.

That's exactly how I put it haha, every time Esther tries to go to her, she pushes him away. And Ducky and Esther are alwayss in the middle of he cage trying to show off LOL
