Watched a video on youtube on rare colors in parakeets, must have been a very old video, some of the colors, I see in chain pet shops. One parakeet was split down the middle one side blue other side green. What do you think are some of the rare colors now a days ?

Too many to say, really. The "halfsider" you're talking about was a genetic "oops" and not a legitimate color mutation. There is some info on the internet explaining that.

Many of the truly rare color mutations you won't see in pet shops. But then genetically, there are literally so many color combinations that you sometimes come across unusual or unique looking ones. The ones in pet stores are usually bird mill bred at random.

There is a color called anthracite which is a super dark charcoal which is supposed to be super rare, Texas clearbody is super rare, Fallow, lacewing is not real common. Most likely found for exhibition in the English type. I'm still learning more about budgies and their interesting genetics myself.

Interesting, I had to google the two you mentioned. The anthracite almost looks like a black and white picture of a budgie.

When I was on a budgie forum I think I remember seeing a thread about an almost entirely black budgie mutation. I believe it originated in Norway, or some country nearby. The bird itself was not black, but it was just his stripes that expanded through his entire body instead of its neck. The base color was also some dark color, making a very dark bird all together. I *THINK*.

Hold on..

There is a black-face budgie.

Maybe I saw a black-faced anthracite? I'm not sure. It was years ago.

I believe the shows are organized through budgerigar fanciers clubs and breeder's organizations. Not "pet" breeders, but serious hobbyists who breed the English type for show conformation. I think some might be open to the public at certain times, maybe after judging? I don't think they are typically the kind of "show" that is really open to the public, and more for the serious hobbyist. I bet you could get more info by contacting a budgie association.

My local bird club has a show every Oct., and budgies are always well represented. Maybe check for local clubs in your area?
