New Budgie taming

Hi all! So I just want to ask how is my progress and what can I do to make things a little better or smoother... Okay so firstly...I have had my new budgie,Toby, for two weeks now. He is still very quiet and shy. He eats well, mostly seed right now but he has eaten few veggies like lettuce and he also nibbled on an apple. He likes when I play him nature sounds over the tv it makes him very content, and he puffs up while listening to the sounds. I talk with him almost every day for at least an hour or so. I just sit next to his cage and read or just tell him what a cool little bird he is. I caught him staring at my phone while I was writing an email and browsing the web, he was very curious as to what my fingers were doing. Now, he is still a little affraid of me when I move to quickly (I try to be as slow and cautious as I can). I have been slowly introducing my hand to him which he almost doesn't mind in his cage. I do think I need to keep my distance as I feel if I rush things he will get annoyed and more stressed. He has started to perch on my finger inside the cage and he does so with little effort. I have made a small perch on top of his cage which he did sit on top of today for a good hour roosting in the sun, I felt this was a huge leap, I believe he should only be sleeping in the cage and resting, I don't think it's right for him to be in there all day (I would have to get a massive cage if I ever wanted that, which I don't). He flew around three times now in two weeks, most recent flight he was much more confident, still a little scared but a very minute ammount. He takes millet from my hand and will come very close (I will provide pictures). It is still a long road ahead in the bonding/taming process but this is my progress so far, I hope that it is a good one. Please feel free to comment and give me advice and feedback on how to make this the easiest on the bird (I know it won't be easy for me haha). Thank you all so much!

Great to hear the progress! Toby sure is a handsome little guy. A tame budgie really has so much more potential than many people realize. Single budgies can be incredibly bonded to their owners, and many even learn to talk.

Great job! :D

I recommend to continue feeding Toby by hand with the millet, and as he gets more comfortable with you, you can use the millet as a form to teach him to step up onto your hand and be comfortable!
