I have decided to talk (write) about Feather, my very first bird. She was also my very first pet.
Feather (aka Feather Weight) was a 2 year old, female, sky blue budgie I bought from petco back on July 28th 2012. My sister also got her first pet that same day, his name was Whistle. Whistle was Feather's cage mate, he was only a couple months old. Feather and Whistle both had the same problem, bleeding. Everytime they bathed, they bled. Feather died August 27th 2012, and Whistle died a week later from the same reason. I have no photos of these two, but I can tell you, they were beautiful birds. Feather was adventurest, loved exploring new places and new things. She never bit me, and she was never really hand tamed. Whistle was a biter, but he was eventually hand tamed. Feather will never truly be replaced, non of my birds will ever be replaced. Feather didn't live with me very long, I never really got to know her. But I know that we had a bond.

How very sad. I don't know what killed them, but I cynically assume it was a result of the all-too-usual sorry-excuse breeding/retailing. I feel as if they were a couple of little strangers, I agree, never really known, but clearly precious and LOVED for what time they had left. Very bittersweet. Thanks for sharing.

Isn't that terrible, that I'm not at all surprised that 2 young budgies from Petco died in a month from "bleeding", both of them. I'm not sure what you mean by "bleeding", but if they were both doing it then obviously it was an illness or congenital problem they both had as a result of the "bird mill" they came from..
I'll be cynical too, because you're correct.

I also understand what you mean about your first pet. I was 6 when I got my first pet, a cobalt blue baby English budgie I named "Keety". Now Keety lived to be 18 years old, and was with me from kindergarten through graduate school, so different situation, but I would have felt the same about him had he only lived for a month, so I totally get it.

What I mean by bleeding is that there was a good amount of blood on their feathers and in the water whenever they bathed. And they bathed a lot.
