Hi guys, recently I got a new budgie from petsmart, Friday May 5th, so about four days ago. After she climbed out of the box (the box petsmart gives you to take home your new pet) and into her new cage, I let it have her way and not bother her.. since I heard that she needed to get used to her new environment and it would be stressful to loom over her. From the second I let her out from the box, I noticed that she liked to stay near the bottom of the cage.. which I thought it was normal since the bird needed to adjust. Occasionally if i walk by, she would be on a perch but jump down onto the ground, I seen her at the food bowl only once (maybe I wasn't looking when she went to get food for the other times?). Fast forward to today, I noticed that she barely moves. She sits at the bottom and doesn't move if I come near. I thought this was weird since at least she should be scared of me, right? I stuck my hand in to change the water and she didn't react. She even let me put her on my hand(I only did it because she was acting strange).. since petsmart birds aren't trained to do so I found it odd. I look around her and I noticed the feathers around her butt aren't cleaned, a bit stained with poo/pee. So.. is there something wrong with her? Or should I wait it out and see if it was just her adjusting to her new environment.

All new companion birds should be taken to an avian vet for a wellness check soon after getting comfortable in the new surroundings, especially when you feel this bird is not adjusting well. New or young birds do get quiet and do not eat much in the first few days.
Please consider having this bird examined by an avian vet if things do not improve.
