Chrissy outside without a harness

Sponsored Links
I'm so glad he got the short moment of freedom that a Bird should have. Each of my birds for to spend a couple minutes outside with me without a harness on. Elvis spent about 2 hours with me without his harness. I let him explore my garden, he sat on my shoulder, I let him *try to* fly while there was a small breeze (just to keep him in the air longer). Chrissy was so cute while sitting in the tree, that I took photos of him. They came out better than I thought.

He looked amazing today, nice, bright, healthy feathers.

Re: Chrissy outside without a harness

Beautiful photos, however taking any bird outdoors without a tether of some sort is so risky. Even if the wings are clipped the birds can still fly enough to get away from you.
If you continue to do this I predict your bird will fly away and you will be very unhappy and your bird would be facing so many dangers.

I can share a similar story with you. A person took their parakeet outside because the wings were clipped and he thought the bird would have fun outside. This bird was sitting on the clothes line and a neighborhood cat saw the bird. The cat began to harass the bird so much so the bird tried to fly away and landed in the grass near the cat. I think you could guess the rest of the story. Another story is a lady put her two parakeets outside for some sunshine inside the small cage. A wild hawk swooped down on them and managed to get inside the cage and killed one keet. The hawk was trapped in the cage and could not figure out how to get out. There was a photo of the hawk inside this tiny cage. The other keet fought back and managed to survive.

This was a one time thing. I know of the risks, that's why he was out with me for only about a minute, and I only did it with the birds that come when called.

Re: Chrissy outside without a harness

It only takes one time for a predator to get to a bird that is not used to the dangers of outside.
