Morning all.
Had a wee quiery regarding some new birds i have. A pair of splendids and a pair of turks and some 14 week old budgies which are all to go into outdoor heated insulated aviaries come spring time. My quiery is i know budgies can be little arses but im hoping as mine are youngsters this idea could be easier currently i have cages here there and everywhere id like to put the grass keets and young budgies in togther in a large cage i have spare this cage held toos and macaws so these birds not a issue space wise. Im cautious as dont want my splendids or turks hurt but as mentioned the budgies i planned to introduxe and add to the mixed large flight cage are still very young and ive personnally seen my grass keets stand their own against the older larger budgies and now they leave them well alone especailly the splendids so would be easier to introduce to the grass keets than say my older budgies. Id remove any pairs that show breeding signs straight away. Shall add plenty of perches and extra feeders and stimulation and things to block line of sight. Regardless the birds all mixed species of similar temperment and size are going into a large mixed aviary in the spring so i thought advisable to introduce them sooner rather than later while i have large spare cages and while the budgies are still young then there is more chance of peace and harmony if they are brought up around grass keets. But i do know budgies can be wee **** starters. Worth a shot i could try it and keep a eye on them and if any niggles i remove them back to seperate cages not a massive deal. Any helpful advice be much appreciated. Thanks Sam

Welcome to Parrot Forums!

Regarding cages that have held larger Parrots! It is very important to look at the spacing of the bars! The need for closely spaced bars with smaller Parrots is more important. A cage that is larger and comfortable for a MAC can have part spacing near 25 mm bar to bar. That size is to large for near all smaller Parrots. The result can easily be that the small Parrots can get their heads between the bars and hang themselves! Not a pretty sight to find! Smaller Parrots /Birds may need spacing near 5 - 7 mm apart.

With perches, do not use dowels as the constant size and shape is very bad for the pads on their claws. Consider natural branches in which you have removed the bark, washed and dried in the Bright Sun Light.

This is quite the undertaking and I am guessing you have done this level of Parrot care in the Past? Take care that the size of your gathering does not become more than you can easily handle. Large numbers of Birds can easily over-come you abilities. The last thing you would want is to become a segment in the evening News!

FYI: When an increasing number of Birds are kept together, your efforts in watching for flight or bullying increase extensively! Any signs of a Bird being hurt, must be acted upon quickly. It is not unheard of for one or a couple of birds to target and serious hurt another bird. When you add mixed species to the enclosure, you greatly add to this become a problem!
