Injured Wing?

I recently went on a weekend trip with my mother and a friend, leaving my birds in the custody of my dad. He's not the best with animals, but he made sure they had food and water and put them to bed as well as woke them up every day. However, one of my birds appears to have an injured wing.

I let them out when I got home because usually when I'm gone for a bit and I put them in their cage they like to fly around, but Baby didn't do his usual laps. At first, I just thought he was just sleepy, but when he finally did take his laps he was much slower than usual and fairly lopsided. His landing was very unbalanced and I had to help him back onto his perch at the top of the cage. He stretched, and then he continued to hold his right wing up and out. I originally just thought he was stretching, but I realized he was only doing it with his right wing. He isn't treating it like it's broken, and he still eats and chatters and preens Shamrock like everything is normal.

I'm afraid that it could possibly be sprained or bruised? My running theory for how he acquired his injury is a night fright that I couldn't help him with. They have a night light but I think my dad hid it too much when he covered their cage.

I'm planning on scheduling an appointment with the nearest avian vet, but I would like some thoughts as to what could be wrong with Baby. I'm very lost and concerned. I don't know how much a trip to the vet for this would cost and what I would do to help him heal if it isn't just a sore wing.

Thanks in advance

If he did fly then it isn't broke.
I have heard this with dogs maybe it's true for birds too.
Wait 24 hours to see if it goes back to normal, if not see a vet, if it does then maybe it was just a bit sore.

Pacho use to hold her wing out away from her body. It was usually due to a feather that was not laying correctly.

She would almost always let me fix it for her and her wing would go back into place.

it could be a feather not sitting right or maybe possibly just a bit stiff after being out of use for a bit longer than usual. If he seems his normal self I'd leave it for a day and see how he does. Like you say he could have bashed it during a night fright so it may be a bit sore right now. If he doesn't fair any better give a CAV a call for a quick check-up (they're not that expensive from what I can tell from other members of the states) They may want to run an xray to be sure there's no damage though which can be a bit more expensive, though considering he did fly if a bit wonky without any fuss I don't think it's broken

I've watched, and I believe it's an odd feather or two. He's missing two on his wing as well. I didn't notice at first, but they're sat in the bottom of the cage. His wing looks a little bit jagged without them. And I can see what looks to me like a misplaced feather on the underside of his wing when he lifts it, but he won't sit still long enough for me to properly look at it and (hopefully) fix it. His flying has improved a bit though, so now almost the only indicator is his holding his wing out like he's stretching after he moves.

Still? Me, I would be on the way to the CAV, but I am a worry wart when it comes to Salty.

My closest avian vet requires you schedule an appointment at least three days in advance for non-emergencies and I can't take him Saturday so I'll have to take him in next week some time. If he stops eating/drinking/etc I'll definitely qualify it as an emergency and take him in, but my parents aren't eager to claim a ruffly wing as an emergency quite yet.

jazz has a wing that she chews on relentlessly. all her primary feathers get jagged and she eventually chews through the base before it matures and so she gets these stubs of feathers and her other feathers are constantly getting stuck on them and they stick out occasionally. She will hold her wing out or make a bunch of noises until either it falls back into place or I help. I thought I'd share as it sounds like maybe yours might be having an issue with one of his feathers coming out of place. They do attach to the bone so it will be sore if it was accidently plucked or broke off. I've noticed jazz's will come out like halfwayish and either hang or moves more freely than it should. Maybe yours is just molting as well? Its not an emergency unless she bleeds from it or it is in fact broken but if she still flys it's not broken.

yes that secondary description sounds more like a misplaced feather, with the other 2 on the floor not supporting it. Normally I'd say to offer a hand with our opposable thumbs but I don't think shed appreciate it that much so leaving it for a check at the vet to be sure sounds like a good course of action

Sorry that it took so long to update! Forgot the password to my account. When I finally figured it out my computer wouldn't load any pages! Baby got back to normal before a vet trip could be arranged. He's back to how he was before his wing mishap.
