Just want to confirm it from any experts out there. I suspect a female.

Sorry about the bad pics, I'll try to get a front pic once she (or he?) Turns around.

Berry (♀ Cockatiel) hatched June 2017
Opal (♂ Budgie) hatched 13 August 2017
Pearl (♀ Budgie) hatched 15 August 2017
+ an aviary of 16 other budgies! all hatched 2014-2017
Looks female to me! How old is she? She looks like an older juvenile female whose cere is just changing to white/pale brown.

Even the most experienced of budgie breeders and owners may assume one gender when the bird is little, and they turn out to be the opposite! The only way to truly know is to wait and see.

Ah, thanks!

Also I'm not entirely sure of age. I suspect her to be about 5 to 6 months old, since the tan color is just coming in on her cere. But, I could be wrong [emoji39]

Ok, so a moment ago I believe my suspicions are confirmed. Skye (My male budgie) just went up to Cloud (the female budgie in this post) and regurgitated into her beak!

It doesn't have to be female for that to happen. I have seen Jordan and Opal feeding each other, both are females. Elvis would feed Chrissy when Chrissy was alive, and both were males.

I would have guessed male, but I have no other idea other than old wives tales. That's why god invented DNA.

Females have an off white cere while out of breeding condition, and a brown one when in breeding condition. Males have a light blue cere when out of breeding condition, and a deep blue one when in breeding condition.

This is why I say it's a female, as most of the cere is pale, and part is brown. Males don't have that coloration on their cere.
Also, Opal my female budgie has a similar color with her cere. Opal is coming out of breeding condition, your bird could be coming into breeding condition, if this is the first time you've seen brown on the cere.

Sorry, I had to write a more detailed reply.

So far they've been really buttering each other up. Skye has sessions of regurgitation with Cloud, and he chirps and peeps next to her. She does have a limit right now, it's when he tries to preen her. For some reason, she nips at him every time he slightly touches her head feathers, but doesn't mind it when he taps her beak. But he's trying his best to sweeten her up, he's been ever so slightly moving closer to her head and chirping. What a gentleman!
