You’re right.. Greens are ladies, other two are guys :). Cute!

I got them at petco, My plan was to get 2 of each sex. I think I did pretty well, they always have an abundance of boys which seems weird to me. I'm fairly certain that out of the 25 or so budgies they had in stock, I had only 3 or 4 females to choose from and they were all of the same green color variation.

This is going to be my attempt at getting at least one set to pair up, and maybe next year around this time there will be eggs and I can be bird grand daddy.

I absolutely love budgie chatter. It's calming. The noises they make offer a satisfaction that I can't get anywhere else. I think I may move their cage to my room so I can hear it when I sleep!

Can you see the blue guys beak? It has a black mark on it, I like unique so I picked him cause of it. And he does step up for me after less than a day, the others, not so much but the yellow guy did land on me once long enough to get a pic. I think I got a good bunch. Should be easy to socialize, but not too much... I want them to make sweet sweet bird love to each other.

Blue on the top perch looks male to me. Green next to him looks female. I can’t see so clearly but green on the bottom left looks female, and yellow is a bit ambiguous. Could go either way.

All this being said, it’s very difficult to know for sure when they are babies. I’ve had a lot of experience with this and I have mis-sexed many times before. You just have to wait and see!!

Just a heads up, in case you weren’t aware.. big box pet stores like Petco and Petsmart buy in bulk from birdie mills.. If you get one that’s strong genetically, then you got lucky at random :). Most only live several years.

Usually best to select quality birds with known temperaments and lack of health issues, and breed in individual cages (rather than with other birds in same cage) so you won’t have aggression issues. Good luck though, with whatever you decide to do. They’re super cute :).

I have one pet budgie.
They're really sweet. I especially love the coloring of the yellow one.
No guess on males vs females. During the first few months, they could go either way.

Just wanted to note on the blue one's beak though. The dark on the beak means that he is a very, very young baby. That usually goes away shortly after they leave the nest box. That one would be my choice to keep by himself and teach to talk.

My experience has shown that you need the noise of at least 6 pair of budgies to stimulate breeding. I tried with a smaller number, but 6 pair was the magic amount. You will also (hopefully) pair them up; each pair in their own (large) cage, rather than leaving it to chance.

Good luck - and enjoy your beautiful babies!
