So, this is Snow the budgie.... if you cant see her then I suggest looking for just a tail out of the food bowl LOL
So, Snow has been doing this lately, she is only 12 weeks old.
She will literally throw out all the food in this bowl just so she can squeeze in like this?

The cage is covered on the sides, so it cant be from seeing someone/thing?
Kiwi actually leaves Snow alone, so it cant be the fact its a 'Tiel and a Budgie in the same cage.
Snow has a little metal bowl that hangs up and she does sleep in that now and again, but most of the time... its in her tiny little food bowl?

Surely this cannot be comfy!
Though... I have seen on many post and you would of thought I would of learnt that birds can be very weird ahah!

Is that her water dish? Mango my Cockatiel has been known to sleep over his food or water dishes, despite having perfectly good sleeping perches (and poop in them when he does) so i had to remove them at night time. So she might be doing that. :)

It is indeed her food dish, she will kick it all out as well just so she can lay in there, looks like i'll be having to remove them at night then!
Thankyou!

Being a lady bird she may even be trying to nest! In that case there is not much you could do apart from using a different dish or taking it away at night. However if it poses no issue it should be fine to let her be :).

I had a little budgie girl that used to do this too. It's a bit annoying to deal with for sure. Maybe put in an extra food dish?

if she is trying to nest isn't it a little early for her? she's only 13 weeks old aha
But thankyou for all the comments, I think im either going to have to buy a different food bowl, or ill just leave it empty for her as she has seem to take a liking to it...
saying this though, she is a weird bird... she has taken to one of my dogs, and when I say taken, I mean she has literally fallen in love with him. she will happily sit on Leo's head, but is still timid when hands go near her hah!

considering how young she is it could be for a bit of security. She kind of is nesting but for her own comfort and ease of mind rather than the purpose of having babies

That's what I was thinking, I had a feeling she was a little nervous still, its just making me wonder what is bothering her.
as I said before the cage has a sheet to cover the sides, as I have other pets... but still the pets don't bother her at all, she'd happily walk straight up to the cage to get a better look at the dogs and try to escape to get to them aha!
I cant imagine it would be Kiwi as they are getting along great, no fights, just happily talking to each other.

Thankyou for everyone's input, its eased my mind a little as im starting to go with the idea its insecurity.
Only because I put a larger bowl that hangs in the cage, and Snow pretty much dived into it, made herself comfy and that was it for the night, I just had a tail sticking out. LOL

it's just cause the place is new and not what she knows. Think of the nerves you get first few weeks in a new house
