Thanks. They are so charming and such pranksters. They keep trying to move in with my conure. She enjoys the visits but then wants them out. I want them to have rich full happy lives, I have lots to learn about budgie enrichment! I kinda think blue might be my favorite color, blue house blue birds

Re: Conure checks out parakeet

Unknown age. Previous owner didn't want them, didn't give me any info. But she hadn't had them long, abd that they were not friendly. It as you can see it just took time (weeks) but they are friendly and curious. I'm still working to gain the trust of the all blue one I call Clear Skies, lol Cloudy abd Clear.

Re: Conure checks out parakeet

Pure pink, blue or purple equals male. Since Cloudy is a recessive pied (also works with lutino/albino), and the cere is pink, no doubt a male! So you don't have to worry about any egg laying from either one of them!

Mature females will always have white with tan/blue, tan, brown or crusty brown ceres regardless of color.

Depends on how old Cloudy is...Cloudy's cere is still pink, so if Cloudy is at least a year old then yes, Cloudy is a male...However, if Cloudy isn't a year old yet, then the color of the cere may still change to indicate a female...

In general, when sexing Budgies you must wait until they reach ~puberty to be certain of their gender, as up until that point their ceres can still change color...Being very generic, in ADULT Budgies, if their cere is solid blue, purple, or pink, then they are male, and if an Adult Budgie has a cere that is tan/cream, brown, or blue with white-colored rings around each nostril, then they are female. So, if Cloudy is a year old or older then Cloudy is a male, but if Cloudy is under a year old then Cloudy could be either male or female, as the cere may still change color; usually when the Budgie hits 7-8 months old the cere isn't going to change, though there are exceptions, which is why I always say to wait until the Budgie is a year...
