I got a new parakeet about two weeks ago, I am taming it down and giving it to my grandma for Christmas. I havent named him as I can think of a fitting name. So I will come here post some pictures and ask for naming help.

He is adorable. Such nice, light colors too. I am thinking of the word pastel and change it to petal. So that is the name I have thought of just now. Do you like the name Petal?

What a beautiful bird! Perhaps something that fits your plan? Like Noel, Nicholas, Merry, Holly, Garland or Chris?

Actually we are almost thinking of calling him Elvis. I was listening to Elvis music the other day in his room and he was just singing away. :) it was so pretty. :whiteblue:

im not entirely sure but i thought with parakeets if the skin by the nose is a fleshy or pink color it was a female and if it was blue it was a male and it looks like in ur pictures its a female. im not sure entirely

Myth! Males have pink or blue ceres. Females have light, white blue or brown ceres. :D

I thought the same thing, however, this is not a regular parakeet. It is a rare parakeet and reading through many of these threads in a number of different bird forums its generally the opposite for these type of birds. If its not your normal colors such as the green or blue, rules apply differently. I am not 100 percent positive on the rule for this one but I was reading it last night as I was sexing my birds and finding out whether they one was conditioning or not. She is. I have one that has the same colors as yours. They are beautiful birds. I named mine Jaiden. Just cause its probably my favorite name. My kids don't know this yet cause they're not born but one of them is going to be named after this bird. lol.

So what did you finally name him (or her)? Did your grandma like the bird? We gave my great aunt a canary for Christmas a few years ago and she adores him! She named him Chris after Christmas. (His original name given by the breeder was Bruno which I think is a cute name so I secretly still call him that lol.)

RARE?!!! Not likely. A rare mutation is a fallow, slate, crested or a featherduster.
He is a YF T1 greywing dom pied coalt. Any breeder could breed him with the right genetics. Yes, it is a boy, but you will NEVER have a 'girl' with a fully pink cere. The same rules apply for the 'normal' mutations. As your bird seems to be a dom pied, his cere will change to blue when adult. If I'm wrong, and he's a rec pied, he will keep the pink cere.

Female:
Adult- Brown in breeding condition, light, white blue if not.
Juv- White, light blue.

Male:
Adult: Pink or solid blue.
Juv-Pink or purple ( when cere is changing to blue ).

I am highly impressed with the parakeets. Especially the feather dusters!!! I love them!!! So glad you could help. I am personally learning and reading so much right now!!! I am not knew to Parrots or parakeets but have not had them for a good couple years. These three are my first in about 10 years that I can remember and I am now old enough to take responsibility of my old. Absolutely love birds. Any help I will take to heart!!!
