Ever since I rescued a budgie outside my work last month (happily reunited with his owner) I've been thinking more about getting one for my own.

This girl is at an animal shelter near me and she is GORGEOUS. Found her online so I have not met her yet. Can someone tell me what color she is? I am very new to budgie genetics but learning.

I am so drawn to her colors they are just insanely gorgeous. Apparently she likes Disney songs and especially likes 'A Whole new World'. Good thing I'm a kid at heart and love Disney.

Should I get her??? I want to but of course I would have to meet her. I love the idea of adopting, especially since the budgie from last month really melted my heart. Ahhhhh I'm torn! Trying to convince the husband...

Awww, she's adorable...She's a Yellow-Faced sky-blue/Teal Pied. She looks very healthy too, feathers are very good, eyes are bright, she's not at all thin, has all of her flight feathers and even her whole tail!...and in breeding-season, lol. Probably due to all the other birds around her at the rescue/shelter...But she looks really good, probably a pet that someone lost...

I'd say go for it!!! I am obviously partial to Budgies, they are wonderful birds, but this one looks very healthy, fairly young, and probably came from a good, loving home if she knows Disney tunes and is in such good health....WHY NOT! GO FOR IT!

Thanks Ellen! Her name is Poppy, there is not much information about her past but I'm guessing she was a family pet but maybe the family grew and just didn't have the attention for her. I sent an email to the shelter and if she is still available, I may have to convince my husband to drive to meet her (about 45 min. away). I do have extra cages... :)

I still have not heard back from the shelter. I did ask hubby last night and he said no :(

His reasoning is that I just got Ember (true, in August), just got a huge cage for them with perches and toys, and he thought I would be happy with my two birds after that. I tend to be impulsive about things, and I know I don't need her, but she does need a good home.

I am still not giving up yet. I will keep thinking about it, and if she is still there on Saturday, I want to go visit her. No harm in visiting...

I thought drawing a picture of her would maybe help me let her go but its only made my want for her worse...

I'll keep you guys updated on what happens!

Indeed Poppy is beautiful! Whats one more beak to feed?lol
Budgies to me are just wonderful little things. Relatively easy to care for,and if it is the "right" Budgie,he/she can be the most amazing pet. They are so dang cute, intelligent, playful, chatty ( I simply adore their "budgie" talk!) and the variety of colors is just amazing!

C'mon hubby! Poppy could be your next best friend! ;) :D

Awe, c'mon hubby, she's a beautiful, loving Budgie that needs an experienced, loving home...I mean, after all, she might end-up in a home that will keep her caged 24/7, as people unfortunately tend to think of Budgies as "furniture" to be looked at but not interacted with...it's a shame, as they are every bit as intelligent and loving as any of the larger parrot species..They're just smaller :(

Did you hear back from the shelter as to whether or not she's still available? I know that at my Avian Rescue, all of the smaller parrots are always the first to go. Any Budgies, Cockatiels, Conures, Love Birds, etc. go fast...We used to keep a "waiting-list" of people who were looking to adopt a certain species of bird, but it got to the point where we had over 100 people looking for Green Cheek Conures, Sun Conures, Cockatiels, and "hand-tamed Budgies" (that one pisses me off, lol) that we stopped keeping the list, because we'd start calling the people, but by the the time we got half-way through the list, the bird would already have been adopted by a new person who came by and saw the bird in-person...

She's just a little Budgie...the don't take-up much space or eat much :) And you know what else, Cockatiels regularly bond-closely with Budgies and they typically flock together quite nicely, so it's a perfect-fit with your two Tiels...

Thanks guys:)

I called the shelter and she IS still available!! And get this...she's only FIVE DOLLARS !! The lady seemed excited that I was interested in her and made it seem that not many people are interested in birds so she may be there a while. How can I NOT? She seems like a diamond in the rough...

Going to slip the drawing on hubby's desk... :)

I don't know how long you've been hitched but you need to do some serious training on hubby.

Update on Poppy!

I called the shelter today and she was still available and so I got some more information about her. She was actually found as a stray by some kids in a bush and did not like being handled. She sits by her mirror all day and looks at herself. I was only really planning to adopt her if she could be a pet so I decided against adopting her because it sounds like she doesn't like people and wouldn't work for my household. I wouldn't want to keep her caged all the time but would need her to step up to go back in for me since I have other pets.

I still am on the search for a new mate for Boo, though... he would be happier with a female tiel sharing his cage...that is my next step in my parrot journey! This one just wasn't meant to be.
