Is this an appropriate parakeet cage?

Hi guys,
I just barely adopted a new parakeet and I wanted to get him a new cage. I was wondering if this was an appropriate size. He will be the only one in here. Thank you so much for the help.

Unless I missed something (which is likely!) the picture doesn’t show measurements. Budgies fly horizontally rather than vertically so your bird isn’t likely to use all of the vertical space in a cage like that. I would try to aim for something with more length than height if possible.

Re: Is this an appropriate parakeet cage?

I agree, with Budgie you need a nice big cage that is as wide as is it tall, as they do fly horizontally. If you put them inside of a cage that is taller than it is wide, they usually just sit there all day long..and unfortunately the cage you have listed looks to be extremely small in it's width...

I would check out Amazon first, they usually have great deals on flight cages, which are fine for a Budgie, are usually very inexpensive, and are quite large...But make sure to post the actual measurements of whatever cages you're looking at so we know the actual dimensions...sometimes the photos of them are deceiving...

I've actually seen this cage in person before and to be blunt, it's C***P it's cheaply made, and not actually that big. Definitely look for a cage that's nice and wide rather than tall vertically. Remember you want them to have enough space to have toys in there and for them to able to have a bit of space to flap around a little.

Also look for cages which have locking doors instead of those weird bars that you turn to keep it closed, lots of birds figure out how to open those and escape.

Not sure what cage you are seeing but that cage is a TINY cage even for parakeets. No way would a bigger bird fit in there!

I suggest a cage like this: It's $90 on Amazon and free shipping.

Exactly what I was thinking of Itzjbean!!! It's a great flight cage and you can't beat $90 shipped for it!
