OK so I am so pround of myself I figured out a cheap way to make a flight cage out of a bunny cage so since the weather is getting nice and warm Misty can be outside and in little bit she can have a new friend if they are both females they can lay to their hearts desire and if the new one is a male they can have babies and i will just construct more bubbie/birdy cages! and if Misty doesn't make it I can always put other birds in it. It's a WIN WIN WIN :)
and I thought being outside might get her on a regular schedule as far as seasons go without the artificial always spring time of inside and she is so much happier outside!

It's about 36"X30"X18" not huge but bigger than anything she's been in and big enough to allow a friend I will probably keep them clipped to make it easier in case one escapes since I only have 1 door hopefull we can get the cage up this week then we are going out of town a couple days in spring break so when we get back hopefull I can get her a friend I was thinking the younger I could find the better cuz then she might take it in as her baby? and mother it and stuff I hope to get it going soon I hurt my leg really bad last night so I'm kinda helpless but It's alot getter this morning so that's good

yeah the bar spacing is a little too big so we are taking 1/2" mesh and using the j clip things you use for the bunny cage and putting the 1/2" over the frame and the bottom is already 1/2" so after spring break misty gets a new friend!!! I'm excited I kinda want a lutino at first I wanted a female but now I kinda like the idea of little baby cockatiels or at leat letting them try :) I heard bars on the bottom of the tale mean female and bars mean male anybody heard of this? Misty has bars and is obviously female - anyways pictures should be up some time tomorrow but don't hold me to it I know there are alot of risks of outside but I think i have a pretty safe setup and the way i see it they are just as safe as birds in a zoo i will still have an indoor cage for extreme weather
OH 1 more question! - is there any temperature that would be too hot for them to be outside if they had shade and a mister?

ok now im not too experiance with this but i beleive if its a female they have like bars all the way down there underneath wings and underneath there tail. and if its a male its like a not solid its like blotches kinda...and i think with normal tiel you tell by how dark there orange cheek thing is. actually its more dots instead of bars underneath there wings. but you get the idea .... i think lol. i think its more the tail you look at though. Also another thing is how loud your tiel is, males are really loud.females aren't quite as loud.

ok so cage is finished we need to scrub it with vinegar and hang it then put all the goodies in it see how Misty likes it and get her a friend! whether she takes to her friend or not at least maybe something that drastic might help get her to stop for awhile. Seriously I wasn't sure if she was going to make it last night her stomach looked so bloated it was bigger than i ever remember it being but this morning she is sitting on yet another egg :(

Also breeding her may just cure her of all this excessive egg laying. Gemini and Leo mate and we've never had as many eggs as misty does. Maybe she just wants to be a Mama. Leo will mate, lay eggs on the floor of the cage and thats her lot, she has no interest in being a mum at all.

The cage turned out great Kelli. What does Misty think of it? When are you getting her a friend?

That has turned out great, I'm really glad that she seems to be happier there, you'll have to keep us informed on how she's doing. Great idea to put the tarp over the cage, she's got the best of both worlds, shade and natural sun,

Way to go Kelli.

well we were trying to figure out where to hang it it and we were like the dog cage already has a tarp over it and the corner make it really strong so it worked out great!

Kelli-

What did you use to make Misty's cage? I'm thinking of making one for Sisqo in the summertime. Probably 3ft x 5ft x 6 ft. Of course I need to find something to make it out of that he couldn't snap in half...but...I figure I could use your idea as a good starting point.
