After much deliberation and thought Christmas has come early in our house. The new “baby” has arrived safe and sound. We picked up my daughter’s parakeet early. He is quite miffed at the moment. He Christmas is such a production that I decided it would be better for Skye to learn the normal household routine before all the crazy happens. My daughter is so excited and after the many hours combing this forum and the internet so am I. He is safely tucked away in his cage in her bedroom. We did go ahead and have his feathers clipped. They seem quite short but the 2 primary feathers on each wing weren’t touched. He also seems to be bothered by the clipping and won’t stop preening his wings specifically. Poor baby, hopefully he will bond quickly and this is a 1 time deal. I need to be able to catch him for his vet visit. We also picked up a temporary cage because his actual cage is not going to arrive until mid January. I’m about ready to ask for a refund and cancel the order on that as it was due to be completed and in my house next week. I might just see what amazon has to offer so the poor baby won’t suffer. I will be feeding the same diet as the store did for the next 2 weeks, then we will begin the transition to a better diet. We are praying that he transitions without any hiccups along the way. He foes the avian vet right before Christmas, but they did say they could get him in sooner if he seems unwell. I hope we don’t need to try and “catch” him any sooner than necessary. If he seems healthy I *might* push it off a bit longer to make the catching and travel less stressful.
On a side note if we whistle to him he answers with a sound of his own. I only noticed this because I was putting away laundry.
