Sunny the Sun Conure (sept '18, gotcha 3/'19). Mr Jefferson Budgie & Mrs Calliope Budgie (albino) (nov'18 & jan'19). Summer 2021 Baby Budgies: Riker (Green); Patchouli, Keye, & Tiny (blue greywings).
So Jefferson & Calliope's feathers have finally grown back again, after their second clip this past summer. Well Jefferson has Never accepted the clip and was always determined to fly, even when he couldn't. Now that he can, he begs to be let out every moment that I'm home & he's awake. (So far, he is respecting the curtain & staying in the front room, which is moderately bird-safe.) Since he never stopped exercising his wings, he has quickly achieved Top-Gun level acrobatic flying skills.

So while he does his high-speed laps and loop-de-loops around the room, with pauses to encourage Calliope to join him, he also stops and Hovers! in Front of my Face! Now, it's not a long hover. And the first few times he used some sideways movements to create the hover. But at this point I've definitely observed (yes - how can I not observe it! right in front of my face!) some actual hovering.

Along with the hovering, he also will circle me. At first I thought maybe this was directed at Sunny, who was on my shoulder the first few times. But no, if he want to circle Her, he does so. UP and Over my head and then around my shoulder to encircle Sunny. If he wants to circle me the he Circles Me. Or, as noted, he hovers. Right in front of me.

Oh he also does what I am only able to think of as strafing runs. (Well, there are No payloads dropped!) The circling and hovering have happened when Im standing or sitting, but the strafing only happens sitting. Whilst doing his speed-flying he will drop down near my feet and then skim his way up, almost touching me as he goes, until he lifts away from my head.

So, I find this incredibly cute and amazing. I cant video it because I never know when its gonna happen and then its over.

I also cant really figure it out. I mean, usually I know what Jefferson is trying to tell me with his body language, but although Im enjoying this, Im not getting it.

Is Jefferson saying,"Im not only in charge of the other two birds, Im in charge of you too!?" Or, Maybe saying "Thank you for letting me out"? Or, maybe he thinks Im supposed to be flying too? (This behavior is pretty similar to his way of encouraging Calliope to fly.) Or do you think he is just showing off? I mean with such a tiny little head it's hard to think he is able to show-off, but maybe that really is it?

(When he's not flying, nor pestering Calliope or Sunny to fly, he likes to get to the highest spot in the room.)

I love your descriptions of your Top Gun!!? Lol
The hover and circle , I think he wants to land on you. My Cloudy does this when he wants to land on me but other birds scare him off.
