I am happy to report Oliver came out of his cage today. He's been particularly active in it so I thought I'd see if he'd like to get out a little while. The apt. says birds must stay in the cage at all times, but as long as I don't let him roam the apt. I see no harm in letting him out some. We are in my bedroom with the door closed, and he's just sitting quietly and looking around.

Back in his cage again. I held a perch in front of him while encouraging him to get on it and he did, then got him back in. He went to eat some and play with his toys so I think he was happy to be home. All's well that ends well.

That is so exciting! I’m happy you decided to let him out to play for a bit. We have 1 window we need to figure out how to cover first then he’s going to have his first taste of FREEDOM! In my daughter’s room of coarse.

I think Oliver was glad to get out, but all he did was sit on a piece of the frame of a table the cage is sitting on and look around. As soon as I put him up he ate and played with his toys again. Today he didn't come out but was having fun getting all his hanging toys swinging at the same time.

I’m sure in time he will explore more. It’s still a huge milestone. [emoji3060]

So far Oliver has not eaten a lot of fresh vegetables. The food he's getting says it has a large assortment of vegetables, but I'll try with the fresh again.

Well I believe Oliver crossed another milestone today, and I'm very pleased. I got him a new toy today, one that has small wood chips stacked on a chain with a bell on the end. But when Oliver saw it I think it frightened him. I went ahead and switched a familiar toy with it but he flew out of the cage to my bed. The cage door was opened and after a minute he flew back to the cage and got in by himself. He then sat on a lower perch and stared at the new toy, so I took it out and put the former one back in. Now he's ok again.

Wow! He’s coming out on his own, SUPER COOL!

Sometimes it takes a while for them to accept new toys. Maybe try to keep it outside the cage for a bit before you put it back in? Just a thought, because Skye is super nervous of new things added into his cage.

Oliver came out of his cage today but only for a few minutes before he flew back. When he went back his right wing sort of fluttered against the left side of my head so he passed close. I'm so glad he's willing to fly back to get in the cage on his own. It would be something if he ever had roam of the apartment and still found his way back to the cage in the bedroom from the living room.

I think he could learn to do that. I let mine rosm the great room, and used to point to their cage for them to go back. They are smart. And so cute!

Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Even with BB (cockatiel) he has no problem finding his house. Both he and Amy have their houses in the living room. A lot of times BB spends his time with me in my bedroom which is down the hall at the other end of the house. He'll take off, zoom out the bedroom door and down the hall, turn left and usually land on Amys playtop to visit. My brother would be watching tv in the living room and hear BB coming  "here comes Beebs!" he'd say.
