Making progress/crazy week

Skye has made some progress. He’s not leaving his cage, but he is trying to say pretty bird. I thought it was wishful thinking but then my husband just said he thought Skye said it this morning, and asked if I had heard it yet. So YAY SKYE! I was in there giving him his afternoon veggies and thought I heard “pretty bird” or close to it mixed in with his normal chit chat of happy noises. My daughter has play rehearsal 3 days a week now because SHE GOT THE LEAD ROLE in her next play. Totally a proud Momma right now. But that also means afternoon bird duty is all on me for those 3 days. That’s fine, theatre is her “thing” so I’m happy to pick up the slack when she can’t.

Sunny broke a tail feather about 1/2 way down yesterday. He landed on a picture frame and the 1 feather bent a bit to far. I called the vet. They said leave it be, he will probably pluck it on his own, and it’s not bloody or bleeding so just keep an eye on it.

Blue bird (no name yet) is settled in nicely and is super crazy. Constantly upside down on the top of the cage, playing with toys, just loving life. Not loving people, but loving life. Pretty sure it’s a she, which will come with a whole new set of potential issues.

Stormy is going back to the vet tomorrow. He was supposed to go today but my son broke his finger on Sunday, so I had to take him to the orthopedic today. Hopefully he does NOT need surgery, but it’s on the table until tomorrow when the x rays come back. Also, fingers crossed tomorrow is the last time I have to give Stormy medicine. He HATES it, and knows when it’s time for his dose. Of coarse it would be MY bird that needs it. The good news is that Stormy will still get onto fingers anytime (except for at 6AM & 6PM which is when he gets his medicine) He actually jumps to get to me. No treat needed, he just wants the attention. I can’t try to touch him yet other than step up, but he will work his way up my arm and gently nibble my hairline.

So that is where we all are. I’m losing my mind, but the birds are doing well overall.

Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Great news...mostly! :rolleyes::18:

Birdies and medication..I hate it. A couple years back BB needed to take some for a bacterial thing that gave poop that was nothing BUT water and a little green. So it was syringe time. He was/is very bonded with me so it was easy to get a hold of him to give him his little dose. And he made it better by being p.o. at the syringe and opening his beaky at the tip for a short/quick SQUIRT! That lasted exactly ONE day,for ONE does,and he needed to take the med twice daily for twelve days! :eek: Of course he was fully flighted...and of course as son as he saw me coming,up went his hat,eyes as big as dimes,and off he'd go..helter skelter,flying like it was his last day,yelling at me at the top of his air sac,landing anywhere out of my reach. I think I got more stressed out than he did!
I ended up having to towel the poor guy every time and and that didn't help matters either :eek: Luckily for me,he loves his daddy bunches and I'm easily forgiven :07::60::05:

That's great all is going well, sounds like you've got a lot to keep you busy. Have you paired off the birds yet, one with Skye and one with Sunny?

The blue one is with Sunny and they get along perfectly. Sunny’s cage is open all the time and that seems to be keeping him in? Weird little guy.

Stormy and Skye are (finally) in the same room but in separate cages. Skye seems to want to get to Stormy but Skye still won’t take that leap of faith...

We got those compressed air things and set them in the hallway to teach the cats that area is a no go zone. Mainly because if Sunny’s cage is always open the cats need to not be near that door. So far it seems to be working.

That's good, glad it's working. Guess Sunny just needed a friend to keep him in the cage.
