My budgie is getting pasting of the vent which is getting very difficult to remove. She has a tumour (vet could feel a lump and said it was most likely a kidney tumour) which is causing watery droppings. I have been trying to use cotton wool with warm water to wipe it away without much success. She's always been very tame and I'm worried about damaging our relationship and her trust by having to keep catching/holding her to remove the droppings. I have read an article where they mention trimming the feathers around the area? Is this ok to do or are there any other good ways to deal with this?

I think trimming the feathers us a good idea. So sorry you both have to go through this.

Fully agree with above...

Maintaining your relationship comes with assuring that you praise you sweet Parrot as you are cleaning the area. The praising continues afterwards and including treats always helps.

Thank you. I will try trimming the feathers around the vent. I've just found she's a bit calmer if I wrap her lightly in a tea towel while using the cotton wool - before it was hard to hold her still long enough to clean the droppings away. I was going to trim the feathers as well but she managed to climb out and fly back to the cage before I had chance. I will try again later as I don't want to distress her by catching her again straight away.
