So one of my female budgies kusu is now molting i think ? For over 2 / 3 months and im concerned about her she sleeps alot makes no more noises not chirping.. so i took her today to the closest vet and told me she is perfectly ok checked her and her droppings and told me i should give her a better diet to make her more aktive how ever i feed her veggies seed mix millet like my others birds and even tried to give her vitamin drops but nothing is working and the vet just said oh well this is perfectly normal what can i do? She always looks so tired even when she just slept over 10 hours is this normal?

I believe that your region had a colder than normal Winter, which can really sap (pull) energy from birds as they work to keep warm. Especially when the cold weather comes in waves. This 'can' also set molting as the bird attempts to replace feathers.

I have such tiny experience with this species of Parrots that I'm likely not much help. Take a bit of time and really attempt to define a healthy diet for your bird.

Some forms of Protein can be deadly for Amazons when provided in higher amounts. But, I commonly increase the percentage in Winter time and when molting. Extensive molting also places demands on their stores of minerals. With both, its a change in the diet, not additives.

With good hope, our budgies experts will catch this Thread and provide far for insight...

Cheers,

Don't give vitamin drops! One the toy in the water, two you can overdose becoming toxic, three if you feed veggies there is no need.

I would feed some plain yogurt, just a thumb size dab, most birds will lick it up. Fir her feed it once every day for five days, then incevacweek after that. If she has a yeast overgrowth, or bacterial overgrowth this will help. It is safe to do this, but useca fresh new container to get the tiny amount from each time, remove after ten minutes if not eaten. Can you post a poop pic?

Any live cultures yogurt, with no artificial sweeteners.

The picture is not normal poop. But what you describe as sck ring with white center is normal.

Sorry no outcome. That is frustrating. Maybe she is getting better? Did they do poop cytology, or stain? It culture?

The yogurt would balance her GI tract. But you don't need to force anything. Besides feeding a good diet, keeping things clean, and keep home warm, I don't have any ideas. How long have you had her?
