Zumpreen fruit pellets for budgies (BUDGIE OWNERS)

Are zupreem fruit pellets bad for budgies because they contain sugar and are colourful is it best to stick to natural I dont know what the birds will like and availability of pellets is less here. If there are any budgie owners out there who feed their budgies this pellet I would like their advice on if it is affecting their birds health or not.

They aren't bad. They are just not the best. If your budgies will eat other pellets that are more natural and you can get them, go with those. If not, it's still a respectable brand, but it's kind of like Apple Jacks cereal vs Grape Nuts or something (in terms of human food analogies lol).
The added sugars and coloring are not ideal, but they are still a popular variety and a lot of people feed them to their birds without issue.

Hi there! Zupreem has higher sugar content and food coloring so it may not be the best choice for pellets. I recently transitioned my budgies to a combination of Roudybush and Lafeber. No food coloring and well rounded nutrition (although I think Lafeber has slightly higher sugar). They've eaten seeds all their life and took about 2-3 months of slow transition. They seem to like it now.

Just remember to transition them slowly so they do not starve. Gradually increase the new food. Do not cut out old food until you're sure they're eating the new food. You know they're eating the pellets when you see grounded/powdered pellets in their bowls. Good luck!

I have 4 bowls could I fill 2 bowls with pellets and 2 with thier seed mix they are eating now. Also pellets available would be harrisons and zumpreen natural.

I think if you separate them like that, they will generally pick the seeds...I am not sure about yours, but mine does. I mix mind together (some seeds and pellets) ...she still tends to pick the seed but does eat some pellets.

I am not familiar with that brand, but I like that they do not have any added colors (or, so it seems).

The one thing I will say is that if your birds are super picky, Zupreem fruit blend can be a "gateway" pellet in some respects, because some birds are more willing to try something slightly sweet and colorful. Again, if they will be fine with something better, then go with the better option.
Zupreem also sells a natural line, and while it isn't perfect, it doesn't have all of the added stuff in it.
EDUT- Just saw you mentioned that-Naturals should be fine. Harrisons is more expensive, but has better fan-fare.

Yes, as with Noodles above, definitely mix the old and new foods together as you transition slowly. It will help the birds realize that the new food is edible.

The only thing that I have to add is that Colored Pellets add an additional problem to life with Parrots! At some point in time, your Parrot will, just for fun, eat only one color and the resulting colored 'poop' will having you running to the Avian Vet! Yes, it happens more times that anyone can imagine!

Absolutely, birds vary with digestion and "pooping" of color. My entire flock used to consume Zupreem Fruit Blend and I was initially befuddled with shades of poop! Few of them liked purple pellets.

I am a fan of Harrisons, perhaps because the flock transitioned uniformly and it is one of the better pellets. In any case, almost any pellet is better than an all-seed diet.

Regardless of the brand you choose, consider Harrison's conversion protocol. Worked well for mine, may be helpful for you!

What is Harrisons high potency is says the bird should have that for 6 months before going to harrisons adult life time is this necessary. Also I will most likely be sticking to harrisons as they dobt contain sugar.

Not certain why they recommend high potency for 6 months. Might be as transition as many birds are coming from high protein diets with abundant seeds. Recommend inquiring with avian vet for better guidance. I used high potency for 3 months before transitioning to adult lifetime coarse.

Harrisons Lifetime seems to be based in corn but there is one big problem: the corn here is not completely grinded and is left in solid pointy and even sharpened pieces plastered into the pellet... which is a problem because a caged bird cannot digest at all these rocklike debris since in captivity they never care to use or even have the needed grit for this task so as a result my african grey had long painful digestions -you can clearly see them having cramps after they eat- that ended with pooping the corn slices stained in BLOOD... I tried the high potency coarce variation whichs seems to have much less solid debris but it is very VERY heavy with fats and the poor bird again had long difficult digestions so I was forced to change of brand even if this is high quality stuff. Moral of the tale: learn to properly grind your food Harrison if you even care -however my parrot loves the harrison power treats, but unfortunately it is not a maintenance food and again very heavy with fats-

Found this on northern parrots on the reviews it scared me a little.

Harrisons is produced in North American FDA, Human grade certified facilities only! Based on production protocols, there should be no difference between the product regardless of the facility that is producing it. As a result, product purchased anywhere in North America is within 99+ percent the same in compounding and packaging. Finding chunks should have been reported to Harrisons as soon as you saw it.

By the way, where is 'here' for you?

We have always started our Amazons with Harrisons' Adult Life Time mixed with their quality grade dry seed, grains, nuts, pasta and freeze dried veggie mix (no sunflower or peanuts) for their dry food base.

I didnt see chunks in it that's a review I found online I live in pakistan so availability to pellets are less. It's mainly zumpreen here the sugar in zumpreen isnt gonna cause a yeast infection is it.

Likely a dis-information 'online review' targeting a competitor.

It is important to understand that pellets should never be provided as a single source meal for your Parrot. The vast amount of the diet should be fresh quality Veggies, targeting dark green to lighter green and then into the wide cross-section of available veggies. To this wet base, a smaller amount of fresh fruit is added, taking care to limit fruit during mating season (Hormonal Season).

Sugar is added to encourage Parrot to eat the pellets and with the natural sugar found in fruits you can easily have a Parrot suffering a Sugar High. When provided as a supplement to a natural diet you should not see sugar as the cause of yeast infection.

So I've decided to get the fruit zumpreen pellets for my budgies as it's the one I can find easily and afford. I will not be giving any fruit to them and only the pellets with seeds and vegetables. Hopefully it wont be to much sugar for them.

Many here use Zupreem Fruit Blend as part of a healthy diet. Seems you are on the right track if offering abundant vegetables!

I'm just a bit scared that they might get a yeast overgrowth and I know budgies are more vulnerable and likely to die if they get yeast which is what is making me worry. But it's very hard to find many other pellets here
I heard that the amount of sugar is very less someone tasted it once and said it's as sweet as cardboard. Also I know my birds will accept it as they like colourful foods more.
