Dorm room heating out

Hello all!
I’m in dire need of help and advice. I live in the dorms and a huge cold front just went through my town and the building is still not set to heating. My room temperature is 66 degrees Fahrenheit right now and I’m so worried about my little birdie. I currently have a blanket and one of my coats over her cage to try and capture any available heat and keep it there, but I have no idea if there are any better ideas.

You could get a space heater, BUT BEWARE, many contain coils coated in Teflon/ptfe/pfoa/pfcs and they should not be used in the same house with birds..If you go that route, you will have to find models that other parrot owners have already vouched for and researched online, or call the company which can take a few days (they will also require full spellings of word that corresponds to those abbreviations).

If you have a dryer in your building, you could try heating up a bunch of comforters and bringing them into the room (If it's small, that could generate some heat in theory...) Don't put the hot comforters on them, but my dorm was small enough that a big warm blanket could have probably raised the temp in the room lol.

If you have a TEFLON FREE/PTFE/PFOA/PFC free blow dryer and you are certain, you could also consider running that (not pointed at them...just in the room). Just be SURE that it is free of teflon etc...you do not want to poison their air.

They will be okay at that temp in all likelihood, but hoping it won't drop a ton more (then again, part of it depends on what they were used to before---if you kept it 70 in there, this isn't much of a change).

Thanks for the confirmation guys, I liked to keep it at around 70 for her, but she isn’t by the window or the HVAC system because of drafts and such. I’m just glad to know she’ll be fine because I was super scared about her

Ceramic personal electric heaters. Very utilitarian in appears and are commonly sold to keep office workers warm at their desks. They are sold by ACE Hardware and other big box stores for 70 - 100 USD. The Cold spell will last for another four to five days 'at least.' Your temperature is likely to drop further resulting from this extended period of cold temperatures.

Do not use a lamb extension cord as these demand higher amps. If you need an extension cord, get one that will support higher amp draws. You will likely need an 8 - 12 foot extension cord. If you use the terms used in this Post, most Big Box staff will know what you are looking for.

I keep my house anywhere between 65 - 68 throughout the year and my birds do great!
