This will be the story of Blue Boy.

Yesterday i got a call that some saw my lost quaker parrot Neptune.
I rushed over and discovered it was a blue parakeet. We almost caught him, but ten kids rushed over and scared him into a tree about 100 feet up and only 4 feet from a hawk.

So I went home and got my parakeets and came back. Spent a hour or more but he wasn't seen again. And a drenching thunderstorms came through, and it rained most of tge night.

I came back at 8 am this morning to look for him. I played parakeet sounds, and put my parakeets on top of my car . It took about an hour and a half, and he showed up!! He circled and landed in a tree across the street . I walked over and talked go him. Then went back across the street to get my birds and set under the tree. But when I came back he was gone...... so i went looking. I found him back at the bush we saw him in Yesterday. I went 30 feet back to get my birds, net, and food. When I came back he was gone again...

So another half hour goes by. Then tge house I was at, the people called me!@ Their cat had just caught him...:(
She was surprised I was right outside!!@ she gave me Blue Boy, and I asked for peroxide and q tips. She only had alcohol. I cleaned the puncture on his face, and brought him home.

He is very very thin. With a bleeding hole on his face.

I cleaned it with peroxide. And did a phone consultation with my avain veterinarian. I started him on the antibiotics. And also gave him 1/2 cc of sugar water. I set up a hospital cage for him, and put my radiant heat panel on him.

He is fluffed and very stressed out. He ate a few seeds on the way home from catching him. But since all the wound care and medical attention ..... he is sleeping.

So prayers for Blue Boy. I'm going to fo my very best to save him

Yesterday we checked the subdivision face book and next door app, and their notice board. Nobody listed him lost.... And I talked to several households in the subdivision. .im taking steps to get the word out. And Jenn is helping me with that.

Blue boy ate a tiny bit of food. But he is hock sitting and looking rough...

Blue Boy, has perked up a little. He is nibbles on some seed right now. He will get antibiotics and wound care in an hour, and then st bed time. Hopefully we can prevent any cat bite infection. Fingers crossed.

Oh Blue Boy! You’re in good hands now little fella. If Miss Laura can’t find your hoomans, she’ll either keep you herself or find even better hoomans for you.

You have him quarantined, right Laura?

Oh heck yes he is isolated!! Yes I will keep him if I dont find his people. I have 2 male parakeets already so one more is fine. But I prefer he gets to go back to his family!

Oh WOW!!! I didn’t know your Quaker was missing, I feel like I’m living under a rock somehow. And how crazy is this whole turn of events! Just...WOW!

I’m so sorry to hear about Neptune , and will pray that he is found safe and sound.

In the mean time...CHILLS...thank goodness you were there at that moment. I know you will do everything you can for this new unexpected addition. Blue boy is one unlucky, lucky parakeet. Unlucky because...well...the cat, but so so lucky to have found you!

What antibiotics are you giving him?

Tetracycline

His wound goes from under his eye right next to and the full length of beak . Its swollen now darn it.....

Since I just had to grab him to treat him. I change him from being really thin, to a living skeleton!!!! OMG it breaks my heart.... he was thirsty the first time i treated him so it was easier. This time he was like no way

BLUE Boy has pepped up tho. Now standing, and perched on his highest perch, and not fluffed now. He went to the food dish several times and ate a little each time.
So keep him in your prayers.

Yes my love Neptune, oh i want him back. The people who saw the bird said they got in their car and drove to my sign that was several miles away st home depot, because they remembered seeing it. So that's great thst people are aware of Neptune being lost.

The cat was a mixed blessing maybe I wouldn't have been able to catch him on my own. And the weather is now terrible. Poor little baby's time was running out.

B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.
Do you have spray millet you can offer? That is usually accepted when other food items are not.

Swelling is to be expected with any trauma. Is it a puncture or a gash?

Come on Blue Boy, you can do this little guy!!!

One more thing, do you have anything you can offer him for pain? Often taking the edge off the pain will cheer them enough to eat and such. Poor guy

Oof. Punctures are tough to clean. Hopefully the antibiotic staves off infection. :51: Wow, Blue Boy is sure lucky the cat's owner was there!! <3 :blue2:

yeah.....its scary...
I moved the millit spray right next to his new favorite perch spot, and he has been munching.

I will give him meds again in an hour or so....my vet said to give him a loading dose then two more times today.

Hopefully he is strong tomorrow, and stays well.
