Re: Please help identify boy or girl?

Hi there Ravekiss, welcome to the Forums to you and that cute baby or yours!

I would have to suggest that it's still a bit early to tell for sure whether you have a boy or a girl there. Your budgie still has those barred feathers on it's forehead running down to it's cere, so until they are gone and the cere starts to take on an adult colour it isn't easy to say for sure. It should start losing the bars from around 4 or 5 months of age and after that it should be much simpler.

Until then, you can have it DNA sexed to determine the gender. There are facilities that can do this if you send them a recently plucked feather (although I've never used one), or you can have a certified avian vet do it for you. The following link may help you find one if you don't already have one.......

Looking forward to seeing some more pics as that little cutie grows up

Re: Please help identify boy or girl?

Thank you for your response. I will wait to see what will develop as he/she grows. No need for DNA, it’s not that urgent at the moment. I will definitely post pics. Thanks again!

Re: Please help identify boy or girl?

Welcome to the forums! What a cutie.

LaManuka is right, your bird is very young to sex it with 100% accuracy. However, I am reasonably certain your adorable little friend there is a young male. He has a fairly uniform pink/purple cere, which is how young males of many color morphs look. Enjoy him! And take lots of photos, in a few months after his molt to adult colors is complete, you will be surprised to see just how different he looks before and after.
