CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME DETERMINE THE SEX OF MY BEAUTIFUL but VERY YOUNG BUDIGE? I AM A NEW BIRD OWNER AND IM TRYING SO HARD TO LEARN ABOUT EVERYTHING.

I have been doing non-stop research for like two weeks. I panicked earlier because Daisy had something on her beak...so i paid to speak with an online vet lol....come to find out..it was just bird poop on her beak from where she was eating a treat out of a toy she had pooped on lol...smh....anyway....i was speaking with the online vet and he had me send a picture...he then told me SHE was a HE. I WAS DUMBFOUNDED. She was in with the other females at the pet store...so then I dove deeper into research and i still cannot tell . they say only the females will have the white rings around the cere...well she has that..but the vet said the color was that of a male. i am LOSING MY MIND trying to find out. can someone PLEASE help me...because i am thinking of getting another bird so he/she isnt alone BUT I DO NOT WANT MORE THAN TWO. so i need to make sure the sex of this one ....hellllllp

Welcome to the forum! What a gorgeous parakeet!! I'd guess boy.

I'm glad you cleared up about beak. Is tge poop normal? It should be a black donut with white in the middle. It should not be mushy or soft or not formed. I'm a little concerned because he is all puffed up. Make sure not by a window or draft.

Make sure to feed what it was eating, and offer new food in a different dish. Diet changes should be slow.

Just incase you need this

This talks budgies poop. Tho they have one example of normal poop but used abnormal poop in the picture . But it's a start.

Thank you so much for the welcome! A boy? Really?! I’m confused about the white around the cere ? so idk

I’m so new to all this so forgive me if this isn’t the right way to reply. I had actually just snapped the picture right after he was fluffing and readjusting..he doesn’t normally look that fluffy lol ... Poop does look normal. I didn’t know about the food switch...I saw a couple places say just mix the old with the new so that’s what I have been doing. So I should separate them?? He has only been eating the nutraberries and the pellets for about three days and already I can tell a difference . He is much more perky and spins and plays ...I’m not sure if it’s the better quality food or if he is just getting used to his surroundings. I’ve had him for about two weeks. ..

I’ve been around most animals all my life except for birds so I’m still learning how to read him. he’s very sweet though...he doesn’t bite at me .. is still a little weary of my hand in the cage (I’ve been spending like 20 mins a day w my hand just resting in the cage w some millet(which by the way ..I thought budgies couldn’t resist millet but he just turns his lil nose up at it lol) so he’s still a lil weary but will immediately come up to me if I sit outside of the cage.

there was something else I was kind of worried about. Randomly at all diff times he will like LOSE HIS MIND for a split second and flap all around and squawk and then just be fine ? Idk if that’s normal because like I said I’m still trying to learn “Bird” LOL

Could you maybe explain his cere coloration to me ? All the things I’ve found online say he could be a young female or a male? I’m still so confused

Thank you so much for taking the time ♥️

I would hold off on a second bird. Let him settle in, and form a bond with you, because adding a second 'keet, will slow down or even stop the bonding process. Never get a second ( or third etc) just to keep the lil feller company, because that can and does backfire. Adding a bird can go one of 3 ways. They love each other, to the exclusion of you, they hate each other and can't be left alone, or they get along with the new bird and still keep the bond with you. And you can't predict this.

I gave you my opinion, it is difficult with the color mutilation. But I have boys sbd they do have that lighter circle around the nares and it can look white. . Im not an expert budgie sexer lol...

You can order DNA on line I use animal genetic. He has clear nail probably so just barely nip into the quick you only need one ti y drop of blood do font cut back to far. You put it on the printed paper mail if out and they are pretty quick. Then you dont have to guess.

My budgies never fluff like that, so keep an eye on him. You can use a kitchen gram scale to weigh him, zero out a little Tupperware fish and put him in it and weigh. 3% weight-loss seek a veterinarian. Or if any other symptoms of viruses! Burds hide being sick, until near death, they will even fake eat.
I'm nit saying your burd is sick. But this us all good info to have anyway
