See siggie :)
My little new bird in quarantine is still sick. Last time I tried to take a budgie to the vets, I got lectured on 'wasting money' and almost had my pocket money privileges taken.
Poor little Lilly is getting worse, fluffing up, still vomiting and even sitting on the bottom of the cage. I want to take her to the vet, but dad.... he won't listen. I asked mum and she told me to ask dad. Which is basically handing Lilly a death sentence.
Even if I got a lift with a friend, that's all my money for the cage I wanted gone as well as future pocket money. Plus I still might not have enough to pay off the vet. I'm too young to get a job round here.
Sometimes I seriously consider giving my budgies up to someone who CAN spend $1000's on them, then start keeping budgies again when I finish Uni.
A firend of mine wants me to take her cockatiel, so she can get a cat. Which sucks, because I agreed to ask my parents about it. Poor little cockatiel isn't in very good hands at the moment, as my friend tends to get bored with stuff.
Life sucks :(

I really admire your dedication and responsibility to your birds. Its sad that your parents believe a vet visit is frivolous spending.

I know how dedicated you are, and the love you have for animals is incredible.
That's great news that you are allowed to get the cockatiel !!!!!! However
I don't want to sound negative here, but this is reality, you are barley managing at the moment financially now, having another bird could burden you even further. Knowing you will do the right thing, the new bird will be taken to the vet, yet another expense for you. Could I make a suggestion, make a list of what you are wanting for the birds you now have, you mentioned a new cage, perhaps there are other items as well. Rather focus on doing what is best for the birds now in your guardianship. When you have ticked off each item on that list, then focus on another bird in the near future.

That's why I am sad about getting another bird, because I might not be able to manage :( . I can't get to the vet until Monday, and that's if dad lets me. That's if he doesn't cut off my pocket money. If it was a dog.. sure, no problems. But, as it's 'only' a budgie.......
Plus, my heat lamp conked out, so poor little Lilly doesn't have heat during the day while I'm at school.
Gggggggggggrrrrrrrrrr.
Guess I could ask the vet if I could pay them off later if I don't have enough.
:(

You need to replace the lamp first before anything....Those clamp on shop light works fine, then use a 60w bulb. Are you guys keeping your house on the cool side? Near by windows where he gets a draft? Try to cover the cage up a bit with some towels. Are you filtering your water? I would not give birds tap water!!! Try to get some cottage cheese and boiled egg yolk, mash them up and mix a little water to it, make sure it's like a wet oat meal like consistency. Also make sure it's not cold, just luke warm. Try handfeed the budgie, those are high in protein, you need to give him a boost...

I'm sorry but Lilly just passed :(

Ratzy I am so-so sorry that you've lost this baby.:( I believe that everything always happen with a reason, although we can not see or understand it straight away. I know how painful it is and I know that we feel responsible and like a failure. It hurts so much, but let me tell you something, it is only the good guardians that feel like failures when something goes wrong.

Your heart is in the right place and I have told you before that you will be an ambassador for all animals in the years to come. Life is shaping you now, moulding you into perfection. We only become leaders after we have fallen many times. We can not feel others pain if we have not suffered first. We can only have compassion after we have lost something dear to us.

It is so hard to stand up and be strong, so much easier to just give up - close up and protect our hearts from more pain. But Ratzy, the animals need you, not only the ones in your home but all the animals that are still going to cross your path. By loosing Lilly you have gained something deep inside that will help safe 10 others. I wish life was easier for you, but I also know that it is the path behind me that makes me the person that I am today. I can hold your hand down this rocky road, pick you up every time that you fall because I know in my heart that one day you will make the world proud.

You can not give up and you can not give away your budgies Ratzy, you are MUCH stronger than that. There are bigger things waiting for you if you just believe in yourself.
