Yesterday, Marigold took a turn for the worst. She was very weak and fluffed up with egg-binding.
Should have expected it with her history, but I didn't.
I brought her inside and put her in the spare fish tank with a heat lamp and she survived the night.
Today she is stronger, but still hasn't passed the egg.
I'm not worried too much about the egg, I guess I should be though.
She has a history of getting 'eggnant' ( my term for it ) and holding the egg for a long time until there is a nest box or a decent sized food container.
She's been eggnant for months occasionally. Which is weird, and the breeders I talked to thought it was internal laying. However, when I put a nest box in once, three hours later there was an egg.
So she holds it. It must be a freak thing because I can't find anything about it.
Anyway, I've been feeding her every few hours via syringe. Hand rearing formula, liquid calcium and water. It's pretty lucky my birds adore the syringe.
She has a full crop now, and feels stronger.
I really hope she makes it to see the aviary finished.
Just thought I'd let you all know.
