feeding cups

just wondering..

do you prefer clear or filled feeding cups? by filled i mean white, black, or
whatever color they are. i heard that clear ones are usually the best for
the birds to see where the food/water's at, especially if they're in a new cage.

i'm asking this because i found a cage i want to get for baby Cloud soon when
he's old enough, but the cups it has are very thick off-white plastic so he
wouldn't really be able to see the food. i also like clear ones to see if they've
been eating their food or not, without having to remove the whole thing and
uncovering it to take a look.

good cages are hard to come by here, but i like the one i found (even though
i think it's way over priced). just not sure about it yet. maybe if i can find
other types of cups for it, i might go for it.

Any kind of plastic will eventually have small scratches or cracks in the surface. This would be where the bacteria grows and the dishes will be difficult to get clean. I use stainless steel exclusively. Can you replace he cups with SS cups??

That's another thing I hate about Rowdy's cage are the plastic cups. They are much harder to clean than the SS ones. You can buy SS ones though that lock onto the cage bars so maybe you could use those instead of the plastic cups.

I think I'm going to get Rowdy a new cage all the way around though. Hers is horrible to clean and I'm just getting disgusted with it compared to my other 2 cages. She may not be willing to move into the new one though.

I've never heard of that about cups (clear cups?? I don't think I've even ever seen them!). Birds will find their food and water in their cages easy enough without needing to see through the cup, because they will explore the new environment and when they're hungry or thirsty enough, they will go in search of what they need.

I use ceramic with Loki's cage (it's what his came with). Because he only eats on top of his cage and never inside it (helps with the cage/food aggression he's exhibited), I have only 3 cups out of the 5 in use and am able to rotate the cups. Makes it that much easier to run them through the dishwasher to disinfect them.

I also like the stainless steel, although I think I prefer ceramic

I find them easier to clean for whatever reason, like the SS gets slimy too easily, in my opinion.

I only use plastic on the playstands, otherwise in the cage I use Stainless

Stainless steel is the better because of it being so easy to clean and its able to scratch of crack. You can use ones they sell for dogs and cats, if the ones they have available don't fit the cup holders in the new cage use the plastic cups to hold foot toys and buy clips for the stainless steel cups to put on the bars. I know that Walmar has it defiently. I ma not sure about a Petco or Petsmart having the clip, but both sell the bowls.

i don't live in the states and can barely buy fancy stuff, but i'll check out that only 'good'
pet shop and see if they have anything good. everytime i get a seperate SS cup from
them, something's wrong with it.

Look for dog ss bowls. They're the same thing, but cheaper and usually come with a clip for their kennel which works great for cage bars too! Good luck! If not, it doesn't quite matter if its clear or coloured. The bird knows where it's food is and can walk over and check. Also just be sure to feed them in the morning and night and there should be no problem!
