Why is it so hard to find well-designed cages for smaller parrots?

Pardon me, but I'm feeling a bit ranty at the moment. I'm currently searching for a good long-term cage for my new Green Cheek Conure, and would also like to pick up a new cage for my Sun Conure, and I'm getting very frustrated with the whole process. Why is it so hard to find a well-designed spacious cage for small parrots? I don't think I'm that tough to please; I'd just like a cage with appropriate bar spacing (1/2" to 5/8") and parrot-proof doors (including exterior access feeder doors), which can be disassembled easily so it can be thoroughly cleaned in my shower at regular intervals. No one seems to make such a cage! Either the cages are so large that they won't easily fit through doorways (so you have to scrub them in place - been there, done that, no thanks), or they have totally inappropriate guillotine-style doors which force you to get creative with twist ties, or the cage is otherwise well designed but the bar spacing is too wide. Why isn't anyone out there making better cages for the small guys? Cage suggestions are appreciated. I know I'm going to have to make some compromises, as it seems my ideal cage just doesn't exist. Cage shopping's tough!

Thanks for all the cage suggestions, everyone! Rio Mom, how easily does that Marvelous Supplies cage knock down, in your experience? My sun conure is such a messy pooper, her cage really, really needs to be completely torn down at regular intervals in order to be properly cleaned; if that cage is easy to disassemble, it might be perfect for her (not to mention my little green cheek).

If your looking for a really easy knock-down, may I suggest Kingscages.com. All screw-less design but more money! Very beautiful cages as I have their medium size aluminum travel cage.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the King's Cages models as well. Fortunately budget's not an issue, it's just a matter of finding a design I'm confident I'll be able to clean easily. I learned the hard way that I WILL slack off on cage cleaning if it's too tough - and of course that's totally unacceptable for my birds' health. So I'm looking hard to find a cage that will meet both their needs and mine.

Does anyone have any experience with Super Pet EZ Care Dometop Flight Cage for Small Birds? It doesn't look like it's easy to knock down, but at least so far Echo's not proving to be a projectile pooper like my sun conure, and I think it's narrow enough that I could at least get it out onto the patio for the occasional sand-blasting during the warmer months of the year. ;-)

I don't like that cage for a number of reasons, it is only 17" deep which I believe is too small for any parrot, the front doors aren't in the middle they are on the side of the front. And there are only 2 feeding stations and you need at least 3, one for pellets, onefor water and one for fresh food.
I still think this is one of the best you can get especially for the price...

It is 32"×23"×41" and it has three stainless steel dishes which are better than ceramic because they don't scratch for chip. The seed skirt is very easy to remove, and it has one huge front door in the middle instead of to the side. And the best part, the slide out tray is metal instead of plastic.

The marvelous cages also don't have any screws to deal with. The panels all just slide together.

Thanks, Rio Mom! Sounds like the Marvelous Cages might be a good fit for my needs. Panels that slide together sound like they'd be easily taken apart for that necessary periodic deep cleaning. As soon as Petco gets the models I like back in stock (soon, I hope!), I'm going to be placing an order.

You should also check out EBay. Lots of cages to choose from and way better pricing, choices, and availability than any pet store will have. I just got this one a week ago and though it's not what you were looking for I was amazed at the savings over going to Petco. The one disadvantage is that it's sometimes hard to tell how big or small it is by the pictures. Even though the dimintions were listed I was surprised at how big it was after we put it together.

I must be doing something wrong... my link isn't working... last try...
