Hello guys.

We went to my sisters for the holiday and took Shelby (sm. cockatoo) with us, using her used outdoor cage that is apx. 20" x 56", including the stand & wheels. It won't fit in the inside of my truck or car, so I put it in the bed of the truck to travel. I would like to buy a travel cage that will fit inside the car or truck. It worked out great for the entire day at my sisters, but may be a pain to haul and set up at other destinations.

Something smaller and can carry easily anywhere would be better.

The collapsible type would be nice for storage, rather than ANOTHER,...cage inside the house . lol !
But, are they just too cheap and weak ???

I want to stay under $80.00 and not so big it's a hassle.

This one looks nice. It's $77.00 & free shipping on Amazon. The same cage is $120 on ebay.

Well for that price I couldn't resist. I had to get that platinum sleep cage for my little gcc. Never know when you might need it. LOL...........OMG I am so addicted to buying things for him. My daughter paid a lot more than that for hers. It is so sturdy and well built it is unbelievable. Forrest is such a spoiled little brat.

I got the "Midwest Poquito Avian Hotel" and love it . My TAG uses it for a sleep cage in my bedroom.
I haven't got to use it for travel yet , but I am sure it would work great . It's easy to move around and it is very solid too. Can't believe the price is so reasonable too : )

Yup I did purchase the hotel cage. Had a helper to put it together as I am not good at those things. I have had it out in the living room for 5 days now and Rosie will not go near it. She is terrified of the cage. I hope in time she will get used to it. The only down side of this cage for me is the weight. It is too heavy for me to carry so I will have to put it on a wheeled device to use it, that is if Rosie even comes around. It is a nice sturdy cage and will let in sunshine.

How sturdy is the carrying handle ?

She'll get used to it soon. Try putting her favorite toys and food inside. ;)

I have one like this for my Eclectus : Bird Cages: Fold 'n Go Travel Cage at DrsFosterSmith.com

It's only about 8-10 pounds empty, easy to assemble, it can be folded up and is able to be carried in the car or truck seat with plenty of room. The big plus for me is, it's only $49.00 and with Dr. Fosters & Smith, they offer free shipping on $49.00 purchases.

That looks nice, but it may not be the one for our Cockatoo. Being a strong man, the weight would be ok. lol !

I know I'm late to the party, but I too have the very first one!! I use it daily too, so as to get the birds used to using it rather than have it come out of nowhere. We use it to take them outside for extended periods, if we're doing yardwork or such and aren't going anywhere but the yard. We use it as a stand in our dining room or living room. It's super easy to tear down, put back together, and store.

When we move, we plan on using the travel cage for probably a couple of weeks. We'd like to get a second one, perhaps somewhat smaller (I don't know if they make them smaller) as the one I have fits Sugar comfortably, so I'd like one for Loki.

That's not a handle. It's an outside perch, is easily removable and not meant for one to carry the cage using. It's more meant to be put together where you go, not to actually transport them in.

I just bought it.

It's not a handle,... bummer. I thought it would make carrying the cage very easy.

I'm very surprised they don't come with one, just like with dog & cat carriers ! Guess I'll make one for it.

I also have the Midwest Poquito Avian Hotel.

Negatives:
It is heavy, the rope perch is junk, I think the "powder coat" paint job is (IMHO) junk as it has plenty drips.

Positives:
The size for travel is great, has removable bottom grate and removable bottom tray, The handle/perch is plenty strong for carry and if removed the cage top can easily come off. For the most part very strong and easily breaks down for storage.

I needed something a bit taller and allowed a bit more square inches of space and found this. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QFMYSA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00]Amazon.com: Prevue Pet Products 91340 Flight Bird Cage Kit: Pet Supplies[/ame]
Its a bit narrower but has more space upward and is longer. Oh, and it only weighs 10 pounds and comes with a good supply of toys for a smaller bird. I will be using this for a temporary housing while moving to AZ.

I carry mine by the handle to move it from one place to the other and it seems fine . In the description it states it's a perch handle so I assumed it was okay to carry it by it.

I think you will be really happy with it : )

If you notice the handle or perch has two settings. Up to the highest one is for carrying and the lower setting is for just keeping the cage still. Rosie is going to be afraid of this cage for a good while I fear. M yours looks much lighter. Oh when I was with my neighbor and he was putting it together the hardware was in a small plastic bag along with a broken bottle of touch up paint. What a mess that was getting things out of the bag. All in all I would suggest anyone contemplating this purchase to choose a different cage. If you are stong and can carry something heavy than go for it.
