So in the spirit of research, I'm looking at different cages for my future GCC.

Here are the two that I've been thinking about:

Prevue Pet Select Series Wrought Iron (Medium size)
24" x 24" x 32.5" H - 1/2" spacing

or

Chiquita Playtop Medium Bird Cage
28" x 22" x 63" - 3/4" spacing

- What are your experiences with playtop vs non playtop?

- Would you recommend any other cages? Perhaps one your conure is in?

My budget is $400 or (preferably) under. Haha. :)

Any help is appreciated! :)

I would go with the bigger one if you can. :) I think playtop vs dometop is all a matter of opinion. If your cage is going to be the main area, I think playtop. But if you're going to have a separate stand for him/her, I would say dometop that way when they are in their cage they have more room. :)

Good luck!

I don't have a conure but I also say go with the bigger cage:) My grey loves her play top but as mentioned not as much room.In pearls cage s BIG DISADVANTAGE is that toys can't hang from the wires on the top because there are none.I has to out dowels at the top and put a ring on the toys and put it around the dowels.I don't know if all are like that so that's something to look into.

Well you can't get the second one because of the 3/4" bar spacing. I think this cage is the best you can get for your buck,[ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004MZV1Q6/ref=redir_mdp_mobile]A&E CAGE CO 32-Inch by 21-Inch Flight Cage and Stand, Sandstone:Amazon:pet Supplies[/ame]

I have two of those cages and one of these..HQ Dometop Parrot Bird Cage - Presented by BirdsComfort.com. I have the first ones for Scooter, Beebee, and Rosie and I have the second one for Sully and Bella.

A few tips to consider:

The first cage you mentioned is taller than it is long/wide. That shape is less desirable, as the bird will spend most of its time near the top of the cage, and won't use the bottom half much, making the cage effectively smaller than it looks. Also, the added height makes the seed catchers less effective. Try to get a cage that's longer/wider than it is tall.

The bar spacing for a green cheek should be no more than 5/8" (and personally I think 1/2" is better). Green cheeks are small!

Exterior access food cups that have a locking door are nice; they simplify life if you ever need to have someone else look after your bird. Get several sets of bowls if you can; that way you don't have to wash bird dishes every night.

You might want to consider this cage: A&E Elegant Victorian Flight Cage 32x21 - SMALL BIRD CAGES by MY SAFE BIRD STORE. It meets the criteria I mentioned above, and is a good size for a green cheek.

I just bought my second one of these, they are big!!! My conure loves all the space to himself!!!

Petco Designer Mink Brown Standing Parrot Cage - Parrot Bird Cage and Playtop Bird Cage from Petco.com
Cage: 30" L X 30" W X 43" H

I dont use the seed guard, I just use a shop vac.

I have this cage for my grey I love it.I only made one minor change to it(I always have to modify it haha)The toy hook is pretty tall and my grey would crawl up there and try to jump so I drilled a hole through The perch support bar and then secured the toy hook to the outer edge of the play top grate. That also stopped the issue of the grate sliding and scaring my bird.

If anyone else likes theirs, let me know what you have! :D
