Hi guys,

I am looking for the best travel cage for my Alexandrine, Vino so I can take her with me when I travel. I've read on other threads about using dog crates and fitting them with perches etc and I love this idea but I'm concerned about whether the metal they're made of is toxic to birds?? Also, what do you think the minimum size would be for an Alex? I don't want her to be cramped.

All suggestions and ideas welcome :)

Thanks!

It's Saturday, everyone is out playing! :) Are you going to be driving or flying? The only metal I am familiar with on Dog crates is the front door and maybe if it has small windows. There are various brands so as long as you get ones that are with stainless steel then you will be fine.

Just driving, my mom lives about 90min from me so when I go there I usually go for the weekend. I just want Vino to be as safe and comfortable as possible when we go :)

I guess the next question is how much are you willing to spend. From what I read, Alexandrian RN's are 18-21" in length so that kind of limits many actual bird travel cages. If you're on a budget and really dont want to spend a lot of money then I guess the dog carrier is the way to go. On the other hand, if you want a really nice cage and don't mind tossing out a few hundred then you can always go this route: King's Cages - Avian and Pet Bird Cages, Supplies, Food, Toys, Perches, Aviaries, Pluck No More

I you have a "smaller" ARN than you may try this: Midwest Avian Adventures Poquito Avian Hotel - Web Exclusive Sale - Featured Products - PetSmart In fact, I was at my local Petsmart yesterday and they had four of them, brand new in the box for 49.99 USD

Hey Devann...

Just wondering what you decided on in the end? and how it's working out?

I'll be getting an Alexandrine in a couple months and want to be able to take him with us to my family's shack (2hrs drive away) for weekends sometimes, so am wondering what you settled on?

Here is the carrier that we have for our guys.....it's a bit pricey but we LOVE it!!

PAK-O-BIRD

Cryrolfe can I ask if you find the pak-o-bird more suited just for day trips, or shorter outings? or would it be okay for weekends away?

thanks :)

I have a collapsing travel cage which Georgie just loved, and i have a harness type that i could wear with a perch and a screen, so she could go 'hiking' and stuff with the dogs. i think i got the travel cage at dr fosters and smith. It also worked great when i moved (twice) with Georgie. (movers moved her big cage and i kept her safe with me in the small travel cage).
