the prevue cage food/water doors don't even latch. they're spring loaded....that won't hold a bird. there's no sliding/locking latch on the door either. it hooks...lol that won't hold a bird either.
shoot....food/water doors don't even spring back closed and one of the front hook things fell off.
I don't think the cage can hold the stainless bowls or perches....probably not even the toys. We ordered a King's Flight Cage....hoping it gets here before Friday....

The people I know that use that cages uses it for keets, tiels or finches. I'm considering it for my lineolated parakeets. Except I'm looking at the extra large one.

I have 5 of these cages for my finches, canaries, doves and button quail. We did have to put a latch on the one holding the button quail because they jumped right through that swinging door..lol. I really like it for my smaller guys.
I agree that it wouldn't work for a larger bird, the wire is also not strong enough to withstand a chewing beak.

Prevue Hendryx is not a quality maker of parrot cages I agree. They're fine for my Budgie cages. King's is top of the line quality. You'll be happy over the years with it.

* I have a King's 405... When I needed a replacement perch, I called the company to order it. Customer service over the phone (a few times) was not as good as it could be. Then, when my perch arrived (advertised to fit the 405 cage), it was about 1/2 to 1 inch too long! When I called them, she measured all the perches "made to fit the 405 cage" and she said they're all the exact same length as the one the sold me (too long) and that no one else ever said anything. :52: she didn't know what else to say. My husband and I both fiddled with it long enough that we are positive it doesn't fit. Instead of returning it, she said she is able to give me a $10 credit since now we have to bother to cut and notch it ourselves somehow, though $10 was not much considering the perch plus shipping was $40! Any additional discount would have to go through the owner, who wasn't available of course, so forget it. So superior cages, but customer service not so much.

Back on the day California cages were "the thing." I was quite shocked when we got Sammie to discover they had gone out of business. Sammie's cage is AE and I think it's fine for her, though Kings would be nicer.

I ordered the cage for the quaker. I wouldn't put the cockatiel in it either. No way would this hold a bird. Front door latch falling off.....and the doors to the feed area don't close tight either. Wouldn't take much to push one open.....

I know!!

I couldn't believe it either (about California Cage Co.) I got Robin his Cal cage when he was just a little boy probably around 19 years ago. It was great quality and lasted a long time. It does need replacing one of these days, so when looking into it, I too discovered they were out of business!

When our grey passed away he was about 12 and that was a few years ago. He had a Cal cage and it was still in good shape when he passed.

I have been poking around for a new cage for Leonard now that I have the room and a feel for what would work for our needs, and this is one of the cages I looked at, but I HATE this style of locking mechanism. Like really really hate it.

My current cage is A&E and I think I will probably stick with this brand for the time being. I wish they made larger versions of the little finch flight cages, though, without having to get the breeder, which are jus two full cages side-by-side and won't fit in my limited space. I would love to be able to give my bird the space kind of space he'll actually use, but short of buying a custom cage, that's not happening, and I can't afford that option.

King's Cage has a flight cage that we just ordered. It's a huge quality difference from the Prevue Hendryx. The prices were surprisingly close. I would have ordered the Kings Cage from the start....but had no clue that the Prevue would be like this. The Kings Cage Flight Cage has heavier wire and latching doors.....If the Prevue cage doors worked correctly I wouldn't be mentioning this.....

I have both, King's and Prevue. Prevue is a little larger and this latest purchase has been a disappointment. Holes not there to fit bars in...I had to bend the wire, and caster (wheel) is just in loosely, so if I lift the cage it will fall off. I used zip ties for those nasty doors and used coop cups for food and water. King's cages are better built...just wish they were a little larger.

This is the one we got to replace the Prevue. Same size with the exception of the height. The King's is slightly shorter inside.

We thought we were going to have to use it temporarily, but it looks like our King's cage is going to be here on Thursday! Praying for good travel weather for FedEx!!

Then the other cage is going back for a refund. Have to hang on to it temporarily, though.

huh, that is actually cheaper than the A&E, and on sale on Amazon right now, although I don't really have the money anyway. Will have to put this in my back pocket and maybe in spring I can do the upgrade. What color did you get?

Just wish I could find a cage that was 36"-40" long, but not so tall. Leonard doesn't use the floor at all so it's wasted.

IF you guys look at the HQ Flight cage, it's about the same looks but better made! It's the same exact price as well. Except the breeder box doors needs to be locked if you don't want your birds getting out. I put a lock on them. I own two of these cages for my smaller birds and they do well in them. I do away with the food dishes though and went with one of those hard plastic attach to the side dishes.

You're absolutely right. That's a MUCH better cage! Good latches, 2mm wire instead of 1mm, just better in general. I was going to keep the Prevue as a spare, but maybe I'll return it for one of these instead. Thanks Mike!

We have a flight cage we bought used awhile back that's occupied....but, how or where can I find the manufacturer? It's a great cage!!! It has a small shelf inside and a metal ladder from the bottom to the shelf. It's near the same size but the bars are of heavier material.....
