I ran across a craigslist ad for a cage that I think will be a great, space saving option for my conure girls (once quarantine is over with Poppy). This cage will make my husband very happy because he does not like the idea of three cages in the bird room (aka, our office space). The seller says it's in great shape with no rust and is offering it to me for $180. I've read I should use a bleach solution for cleaning and then let the sun dry it, but our forecast shows rain for the next 6 days (weird for drought ridden, northern Cali. Lol). Should I not do the bleach solution if a sun dry is not an option?

Here is the cage

You do not need to let it dry, just soak it well with bleach. If it is going to rain, take it to a do it yourself carwash. Will also let you use the high pressure hose to really clean it down well. I would spray with bleach (wear old stuff and be careful with your eyes), just spray until its literally soaking wet running off. Let it sit for a few minutes, then spray it down well. I would back that up with something like AviClean, maybe both spray and then use a rag soaked in the Aviclean to wipe down every nook and crevice. Then pressure wash again.

Word from the cleanroom certification tech (my husband worked in the industry for years and military background is nuclear, biological and chemical specialist). The metal will not absorb anything, you are simply dealing with topical. Since you can't put the cage into a huge tub to dunk it, then spraying it down is your next best option. I added the Aviclean as my suggestion :) I am a big fan of Aviclean, makes cleaning so much easier too!!!

We have stacked cages and they are awesome for saving floor space.

Awesome. Thanks so much!!! Is the aviclean readily available? Something I can pick up locally or will I need to order it?

A good petstore with a decent bird section should have it. I order it from mybirdstore, but we order most everything from them and get free shipping....

Here is a the link so you can see the bottle.. I don't think petsmart carries it, but a local shop may have it, its pretty popular cleaner.
