We have a camp that we go to some weekends. I want to be able to take Oscar with us. I want to purchase a secondary cage for him while we are there. What size does it need to be? I can't really afford to spend a ton of money but I want him to be comfortable. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

For a temp cage, I wouldn't go smaller than 18x18. You'll also want a cage with a large-ish door, too.

Something like this might be ok. (not square, but just about equals an 18x18)

Some of the smaller cages aren't very sturdy though, at least not when it comes to the larger conures, and if it has an open top, it should be clamped shut with no way to open the top from the inside or outside.

I have a folding one similar to the Prevue cage above, that i got from Drs Foster and Smith. I love it. Very convenient. I use it all summer at my friends house for our beach time and i fold it and put it under 'my' bed at her house. Right now it is in my office for Gilbert's visits. He takes to it well and the size isn't a problem. Room for a couple perches and toys and his stuff for fun times.

I know they look cheesy but they serve their purpose. I have had this cheap little collapsing cage from Drs Foster and Smith for years (I had it for Georgie for a number of years before I got Gilbert) and it still gets used pretty regularly, folded and opened repeatedly. He is happy there when we go away. This video was last summer, deck time while we were spending our weekend at my friend's house at the beach.

Definitely not like his nice Kings Cage but good for a temporary home. :)

I started out with the All Living Things Starter Parrot kit and it is very sturdy. I would recommend that one for sure!
