Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on the Avian Adventures Chiquita Play Top Bird Cage for a conure.

Specifically, are Avian Adventures cages zinc and lead free? Other thoughts about the company and cage are welcome too.

Here's a link to the cage

Thanks.

Sorry I am not familiar with that company. It looks like a very nice cage though.
My cage for my conure is made by 'Marvelous' and the model is called the 'Chateau'.
It is of similar size and features as the one you are looking at. I am more than pleased with the cage.
You can google 'Marvelous Bird Cages' and see a nice selection :)

Avian Adventures is supposed to be one of the 'better' brands out there, though I've never used them. They're powder coated (paint process) anyway. Don't worry about parrot cages. It's wire mesh and chicken wire which contain unsafe metals.

I don't know any thing about that company. I do know almost all cages are now made in China. I do know that some of the dealers have had their cages tested and have had issue with lead/toxic metals in the powercoating on some cages. If the dealer isn't checking, doing quality controls, then it's possibly unsafe. It's all about the bottom dollar and who can get the best profit margin. I'd ask if they check the powdercoating and ask where they are made. I think you'll be hard pressed to find any one who doesn't get their cages from overseas. Problems with toxic metals take a long time to become noticeable in birds. The manufacture doesn't care, make sure the dealer does.
