Couple of questions about getting a cage for a Goffin

Looking mostly at 2 cages at petco atm. The mink brown cage that has really good reviews for the size and price. Also looking at the A&E Flight cage.

For the mink brown cage I'm worried about the bar spacing. It says 1/2 bar spacing, not sure if that's too tight for a Goffin. Although a lot of the reviews say the bar spacing seems to be larger than 1/2. Went to check it out at the store but they didn't have a display up.

The A&E cage I'm not sure about the size as well. Seems pretty big and I think I've seen people say good things about it on here for the price range. Also worried about how its not fully attached to the stand. My parents have dogs and he'll be here for awhile. Worried they could knock it off the stand but I also could put him in a room they can't access if need be. It's even cheaper so it allows me to spend some extra cash on toys for now. I could always make home made toys though (lots of materials I can use at the zoo I intern at too).

I was also looking at craigslist but I've decided against it until I've confirmed that he can be caged. I've only had access to a small cage (18x18 i think)to put him in. He refused to get in it. Hopefully its because it was too small and not because he never was really caged. He's a rescued bird that had full wings when he was found. So staying away from used in case I have to return it.

Hoping some people have some advice. Don't have the money to buy a really nice cage for him atm. Not too worried about durability. If it stays in good shape a year or two thats great cause I'll definitely be upgrading it.

Goffins require the largest cage you can afford/accommodate as they are extremely active. Some of my Goffins are in a free-flight situation in a large room, but I take extreme precautions to keep them safe from the dogs. (they show little interest but that doesn't matter)

He probably looked at the small cage and thought "she had better do better than that!" But seriously, be careful with the bar-spacing as their inquisitive nature might lead to a bad situation. Also the door/feeder lock mechanism can easily be defeated by the "Houdini" Goffin. They carefully watch and have an amazing ability to master complex mechanical devices.

If money is the issue, first priority should be his safety, followed by size, IMHO. Goffins are terrific chewers and need to be kept occupied. If you are able to give him lots of personal attention you may find his cage-time will be better enjoyed. Good Luck!!
