Hey, i am going to be building a large cage out of wood and mesh. I have seen them done online and want to do it. But I have heard some of the mesh is toxic. Do any of you know what kind to buy? I don't care if I have to have it shipped from Australia :09: I really want to make them a huge cage. I was thinking 6-7 feet high. the same wide and 4 feet front to back. and what if the wood is stained to make it look nice, Is that poisonous? I bet it is. If so I will buy wood that is nice without staining.

For what sort of birds? The type of birds you want to have in there will change the rules. A Macaw needs a much different enclosure than finches.

I saw a beautiful cage on craigslist. For a brief moment I wanted it and then realized that my BFA would chew the wood so....

Good luck and post pics when you're finished with it.

It's going to be for cockatiels. And I'm really good with building, If they chew through it I will build another one. They cost 150-200 to build one. depending on the wood and who you get to cut it. I just dont know what mesh is and isn't poisonous and if staining is OK.
