His New Cage!

After his appointment we dropped him off at home and went to the bird store that I complained about. I felt so guilty supporting them but their prices were great and it was the most convenient because my mom wasn't going to drive almost halfway across the island. The prices are good too, and they have the most reasonable prices for their cages.

He had no issue going in and went right to his water bowl.
He also learned that when the clip is there he can't get out, but it really does nothing to keep him inside. I'll be attaching one of those training perches on top because he's in the process of clicker training.

Just an extra, he's been getting obsessed with taking baths. He has a bird bath to go in but insists on his water dish

I'm glad to see you and he are happy. Is it a "he" or not sure? Good you're looking to start training early when he's still young.

..I figured what I forgot to ask. His gender. Personally I think he's a male because of his "lovey-dovey" side and how unaggressive he is. And the size, I was told females are large but he seems smaller in stature. And he is quite small.

Yes, Arrow and Esther are untamed. I was a newbie so I didn't tame them in the "correct" way. I ended up saying that as long as they were together they would be okay.
I have a few pictures of them but I try not to take any because they are easily scared of people and I try my best to not get close to lessen their stress and anxiety.

In the past year they got better and will allow me to place my hand in their cage to change their food and water/reposition toys but they keep their distance. When I need them out I leave their cage door open so they can voluntarily come outside so I can move their cage to clean it. The only time I have to physically get them is for their vet-checkups.

So far he's only been on the right side but I'm hoping he'll be exploring more tonight. Right now he's on my arm because he was pacing and I couldn't help but take him out

He really is, I love cuddling with him after school. It's definitely relaxing.

Hope no one hates me on this, but I accidentally fell asleep scritching him but woke up to see him still in my hands or 5 inches away ! He's really loyal when no one else is around. If he sees another member of my family he'll go chasing for them

Izzy was more "somewhat". She was absolutely fine when it came to just having her on your arm or other body part. She was more aggressive, rather than scared of hands.

He's been liking his cage quite a bit, he stays in one area but I'm hoping he'll completely adjust.

Thank you! I was really surprised he'd done that. It might be the fact he's the only bird I've had that would voluntarily take a bath

It is never too late to tame the budgies

I am glad you have this little cutie though. I wouldn't rely on snuggle factor or size to indicate gender though, as my two snuggliest birds are female, and actually all of my best pets have been female, except Scout, but even he never snuggles. It is not a rule, is what I am saying. Also wit he size that can very much be based on his health as a chick, the health of his parents, etc. you can get a DNA test from Avian BioTech for around $25, and you could do some basic disease testing through them as well. They even give discounts if you to multiple tests using the same blood sample. It is always wise to know the gender of your bird in case there is a medical emergency. Some things can be ruled out based on gender, and that means your bird can be treated faster. Speed is crucial with sick or injured birds. It also helps you to know how to prevent and deal with hormonal behaviors that are specific to the gender

I was actually thinking about taming them again, if they really are too scared I'll let them be again. They're fairly used to me already because they're housed in my room aka the most quiet and peaceful place (honestly).
The snuggle factor was assumed by the woman - or vet, I'm actually not too sure.
About Avian Biotech, I planned on using them last week but I never had the chance to. My main concern is that my family can't purchase or spend money online right now. Mailing is an option too...once we find the postage stamps our grandma hid for us.
I never thought about the gender being critical to emergencies, thank you for bringing that to my attention, it's making me 5x more determined to send out some samples LOL.
