Can't find right size cage

Ok so I ordered a 20x20x29" cage that is open top style for my new baby Meyer's. Where it opens is a big gap that I'm worried about. Also I want to get a bigger cage. The problem is the only cages I can find bigger than 24x22x58 (approx) are all 1" bar spacing, which I've read is too big for most poi's. Anybody have any online store suggestions? I'm in Canada if that helps!

Thanks!

It's odd that you're finding 24x22 with 1 inch spacing. Griffin has that size with 5/8. Come to think about it, even the next size bigger (23x32) usually has 5/8 too!

Any of the smaller Poi species that I've seen including my 2 (and Griffin is an extra tiny one) have heads that measure well over 1 inch. How do I know? Don't laugh, but I've measured their head as well as (and I'm almost embarrassed to admit), I've CAREFULLY put Robin and Griffin's heads up against 1" cage bars and there was no way in heck they were getting through even if they wanted to .

Also, Griffin used to play often in Raven my Pionus' old cage, which was 1", Although a bit smaller is ideal and recommended. If it's only the one gap, and you're sure it's an inch, I wouldn't worry.

Thank you very much for the information! Makes
Me feel a lot better knowing you have two!

the 24x22" is the biggest I can find with 5/8" spacing. So you think I'm fine to go with 1" spacing if I can't find a nice big cage with less than 1" spacing?

Thanks again, you've been very helpful!

Again... I find it hard to believe that these medium sized cages you're talking about have 1" spacing and no other option. There are MANY cages out there which are like my Pionus cage which is much bigger than you'd even need for a Poi, and STILL has under 1" spacing (3/4").
You don't say where you're located, but this is the case in the US.

Look here, some members here have cages from this company. I see many here in a good size and larger, and ALL have under 1". Medium Bird Cages, Bird Cages for Medium Size Birds, Bird Cages for Medium Parrots For Sale!

Robin has done fine in his same cage for 20 years! It's a 20x24, but he's not a real active bird. He loves his home, and when the door is open he is still back and forth inside a lot of the time. Now Griffin on the other hand is an energetic and very active bird. He does well in his 22x24, and when he has to be inside during the day he doesn't seem to mind. Although a 23x32 would be nice for a more active bird.

Thanks again!

I mentioned at the end of the first post I'm in Canada. Edmonton Alberta to be exact. Here really isn't many online options in Canada for quality cages. I've been looking on Amazon, cagescanada and elite pet.

There are pet stores that probably have the right size but they charge $600-$800, when I could get one online for $250!

I will probably just wait until he gets here to see if the cage I have already is fine.

Good luck in your search. I know nothing of the cage selection in Canada ;) but it doesn't sound like there is as wide a selection.

I got my medium Prevue Hendryx dometop from Amazon.ca for $300, and it has 3/4 bar spacing. 27x22x54, if I remember correctly. It's quite spacious for my GCC. Alternatively, I have the Prevue Hendryx Playtop that has .5" spacing, which is 36x24x74 (including playtop), also from Amazon.ca for about $350 for my IRN, which I think would do well with your Meyers. It also comes in dometop, but when I tried to order the dometop they kept screwing up over and over again.

Also, while I recognize that they are expensive, Parrotdise Perch sells lots of cages and I'm hoping to buy from them in the future when I upgrade the bird's cages.

Very nice set up. I love how the little Java tree sits right on the playtop. Great idea!

I have a Linnie, and was wondering what the space between the bars should be for him?
I have found a used cage and she told me the bar space are as followed......The vertical bars are 1/2" apart and the horizontal (on sides) are almost 3/4" apart. would this be a good bar space for him?
