Stainless steel screen

I want to build an indoor aviary using stainless steel screen (It can be bought at home depot) but was concerned that an amazon or grey would be able to bite through it. It is more expensive since it is stainless and I thought it might be a durable but affordable choice for a large aviary. Has anyone had experience using this or any thoughts?

Hi Lilli, and welcome to the forums. :)

If you are talking about the true SS mesh, then yes, an Amazon and/or AG can absolutely chew through it.

Hi, Lili, I have been researching materials for an outdoor aviary to replace my aging powder-coated steel model that is starting to show its age. I had thought I might like to have one built in a custom size to better utilize the space on my covered back patio. However, after comparing prices on true stainless wire mesh (available mail order), I came to the conclusion that it was more cost effective for me to buy another powder-coated steel model, which are also better suited to larger birds like Greys and Cockatoos (my main two I put out in the aviary). I don't want them making contact with any wire as they use their beaks to climb around on the walls of the enclosure which I have seen them do, even though both are fully flighted now. All of that fabric wire has little nubs on it that can break off or even be sharp and cut a foot. For me, the powder-coated iron turned out to be the better, safer choice. The new models even come with key locks, offering increased security over the older models like I've been using. I'm going with the 110"x62" rectangular model, which I think will give them plenty of room since they go out separately. Good luck on your project.
