New cage suggestions for mid-2016

So I'll be moving in late January next year to CA. and once there the first thing I'll be upgrading is Jardy's cage. It was 100$ off Amazon, but now I realize even though it's a great size, the bars are far too thin and she is starting to realize she can easily bend them.

It's currently this cage:

and in the future obviously I'll want a cage with thicker bars and of course bigger if possible and I'd like to have some kind of play-top. So if anyone has any suggestions, let me have em! I'll bookmark this thread to future reference to return to.

Raven has this cage in black. Out of all my cages, I really love this one. It has 3/4" bar spacing. King's Cages - Avian and Pet Bird Cages, Supplies, Food, Toys, Perches, Aviaries, Pluck No More One drawback I can think of is that 34" across, it is not a 'standard' size, so I have not been able to find a pre-made natural wood perch (short of making one), so I just leave the cheap (large) dowel that it came with. There are all sorts of other branch perches in there anyway.

It's actually huge, so it has plenty of room to "decorate" without it getting cramped and filled up too quickly. Raven is bigger than Jardy, and it's huge for him. It's made very well too.

We have had 2 Avian Adventures cages and they wear like iron. They are a little pricy, but I don't think you'd ever have to buy another. They come with either a dome top or play top and the play tops can be used either on the cage or moved to a table elsewhere.

You haven't asked to right guy to make you a custom perch.

Several brands have that style. I love the way it looks, and was once thinking I wanted one, BUT... just like the odd shaped fish tanks I used to buy, I think it's more of a novelty to look at and a pain to clean. Sure Jardy would like it, but she doesn't have to clean it lol. Nowdays, I like to keep things as streamlined, easy, and practical as possible. If you don't mind some extra work (it's like 2 cages in one), go for it.

I read a post somewhere where the owner of that bi-level cage said his bird used the taller side and never even went into the other shorter side, effectively limiting the space to half. That looks like a beast to clean. My head hurts just looking at it. Must be why I see them on CL all the time here. If you really like that model, you should check your local CL (sterilize well).

We have discussed this in various posts lately and cages are just so difficult these days. I guess if everyone could afford a custom stainless one for each one of our birds, we would do just that (although I kind of think they look like sterile medical lab versions myself). I have old-style Avian Adventures cages (before they sold to Midwest Metal) and newer Kings cages. I like both of those brands. My next cage for my smaller birds will be the Aluminum Kings.

I wouldn't get that cage, it's a cheaper HQ copycat company. Amazon has the HQ version of that cage (and it's not much more expensive than that one plus has free shipping). I have one and I LOVE it for my rescue budgies. HQ is amazing, sturdy, well built, thick easy to clean powder coating, roomy. You may need to double check the bar spacing and thickness is ok for your bird. HQ has other nice cages too if that one doesn't work. Good luck!
