Gloria, BFA, adopted on Jan. 9, 2016 when she was 30 years old
. Her mom went to a nursing home.
Also have 2 cats (Rangerand Luna) and a 24 year old aquatic turtle, named Elvis.
I am a newbie and right now I am trying to make my "new" BFA's old cage more livable until I get her a larger cage. She is 30 years old and I suspect her cage is as old as she is. It had 2 metal perches that were removed and I got her a nice java wood perch. It seems too heavy for the cage and doesn't feel stable. I feel that a large washer or flat piece of metal on the inside of the cage would help stabilize it. Is this the way to go? Anyone have suggestions about how to stabilize the perch? The wingnut is good and tight but the perch canstill move.

It also looks to me like she may need another perch. I pick her up in a couple of days and I'd like to have her cage all ready for her. I've attached a pic. Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated.

That is a GREAT looking perch right there, and GREAT looking cage as well! :) Am I correct in assuming that only 1 end of the perch came with a screw and wingnut? Since the perch looks pretty heavy, I'd recommend installing an additional screw and wingnut on the other end so that you can attach the perch to the cage from both ends. That should stop it from rocking.

And yes, you have plenty of room to add more perches.

Thanks. There is one little piece that bumps up against the back of the cage. I could put a screw in there. I think I'll do that tonight before Gloria comes home tomorrow. What type of perches would you recommend that I add? I was looking at the rope ones. Any suggestions would be welcome. I want her to be happy. She'll be spoiled rotten just like the furry family members are!

Also--I'm new at setting up a cage. Were my instincts correct about putting the food/water dishes near the high part of the perch? I was trying to avoid spots where poop would land in them!
