Gloria, BFA, adopted on Jan. 9, 2016 when she was 30 years old
. Her mom went to a nursing home.
Also have 2 cats (Rangerand Luna) and a 24 year old aquatic turtle, named Elvis.
My new BFA is in our family room and I'm concerned that she isn't getting enough natural light. We keep our shades drawn somewhat because we get the afternoon sun and in the warmer months the room gets quite hot. We've put a gazebo outside the french doors to keep some of the sun out. As such, I wonder if one of those lights that gives sunlight (but not heat) would be something worth getting to put next to her cage. They have one at Foster & Smith that has gotten good reviews. Thanks for any advice.

I have a "Happy Light" I bought for myself when Joann Fabrics had them on sale and I also had a coupon (got a great deal on it) but since I live in Oregon and Summer is not very long and Winter seems to last for about 8 or 9 months I use it 20 or 30 minutes a day. Zilla loves to be on my shoulder so I'm not sure if it's the light or being on me, but she is happy! I'm sure it's not hurting her, I've talked with the vet about it. Zilla's vet only cautioned to not have it on for too long, and not have it too close. She also suggested it be either above or below Zilla's "eye" level so she doesn't damage her eyes looking directly into it.

Oh I love those Ott lights at Joanns! We have 3 of them in the house! I guess it's safe to leave them on all day? I would have to leave any light on while I'm at work!

I just bought a light last week. Started using it Saturday full time. Stayed on all day. At one time BB sat on the top perch , stretched out both wings and let them drop a little. He just sat there for a full 5 minutes letting the light him.

I did buy a timer for mine but not hooked it up yet so turned the light on before I left home at 6 am . I will be back home about 5:30 so he will get a full day of it. Like you I could never find how much time they should spend under it.

Thanks! I think I'll get that one! The price is right and there's one day shipping!
