I've seen a few rather expensive sites like http://www.coastaldriftwood.com/main.sc and eBay runs about the same. I found a few cheap little shops like https://squareup.com/store/drifton but now i just need to know is, what i should get for a more natural look to the inside of the cage.

The cage size is 110 in deep x 61 in long x 79 in. and very large Cockatoo that has been stuck in small cage for years. When my wife brought it home i felt so bad for its living conditions, i spent 1500 dollars on the cage. Got a local pet shop helping me with most of the small stuff but, their inventory of perches look really fake. I spent all of this money on the cage so i want it to look cool of course. With that said, i did spend a lot on it and I'm not looking to spend over a few hundred on a good perch.

I'm not sure about Driftwood being safe. If you want some really good perches contact Henpecked on this site. He can hook you up

Just noticed you were new. Contact a Mod and they will put you in touch with him.

I did a little research on driftwood and as long as its been disinfected/boiled and cured its safe. Is that not the case? I just love the way it looks in my friends cage and figured i would do the same.

I mean, I'd really like to use driftwood but, I don't want to get hooked on the idea of it, if its not good for the bird. I live somewhat in the country, so if it comes to it i will definitely create my own. Thanks for that link BTW. If anyone comes by a knows for sure, that i shouldn't use driftwood please let me know.

Welcome to the forums! Congratulations, nothing quite like being adopted by a needy Too.

Thank you for providing a new mansion for your Prince or Princess!

It's not a good idea to use driftwood for several reasons, many trees are toxic to parrots and with driftwood you can never be sure what kind of wood it really is, there's no way to know what kind of contaminants have soaked into the wood. If the wood was ever sprayed with insecticides no amount of scrubbing or heating can remove it. Driftwood is usually pretty soft, a Too will chew into it.

Natural wood perches look nice and they are so much better for your Toos big feet, the different textures and widths are more comfortable to stand on and they seldom cause pressure sores. You can save a ton of money making your own and they are usually better than anything you can buy. As David said, it's easy to make your own and your bird will appreciate it. Harder woods will last a little longer, my U2 will find a perch she really likes and chew it right out from under her feet.

If you aren't ready to make them yourself, as Christine mentioned, Henpecked is the man to talk to. Any of the moderators, myself included will be happy to forward a pm for you.

Best of luck, please tell us more about your new addition when you have the time.
