I am shopping for Budgie cages...two of them and I would like to know if any of you have found some nice cages suitable for a budgie and maybe give your reason as to why you think its a good cage and also I will be purchasing a play stand or gym for budgie Elsa so it would be nice to hear what works what to look out for and also what to avoid when it comes to both cage and playstand. Its been a while now since I had a Budgie of my own and though for geography reasons I might not be able to get a particular cage thats suggested I might be able to find something similar. Im sure there are many things available now that werent there years ago so I would appreciate all your suggestions and input. Thank you from me and Elsa

What fun! I hear cage and toy shopping is the best possible treatment for MBS.

Elsa is going to love her new palace! My budgies' first cage was very pretty but the design made it a problem to keep clean. If space allows I would suggest a flight cage, lots of room for natural perches and plenty of toys.

My budgies prefer hanging play stands, they were aviary raised and they aren't terribly friendly, they have each other and like it that way. You should check out some of the super cute table top play stands for Elsa.

Just remembered this one - prices are keen Budgie Cages at zooplus

Montana Memphis in particular

stand Product Search - Over 8.000 Products but I have this one and not very exciting but does what it says
Just two but they will each have their own cage...I know Budgies like a lot of space so I want to check out and compare whats out there and see whats the best suited...thanks for the links...thats another nice cage too

Be careful with the wire cages, there are many toe traps in the design!
Thanks Flboy that is a great point and one I need to keep in mind

Im interested in knowing what you mean by a flight cage ...do you have a link to one you reccommend...what size etc...do you mean like a breeder cage ?

That is what I mean. My girls were aviary birds and went straight from the aviary to a terrible pet store where they were stomped in the bottom of a flight cage with numerous bigger budgies for several weeks before I found them and brought them home.

They spent about a year in this cage and they were very happy there.

We wanted to give them extra space for perches and toys so they have a flight cage like this one now.

How fun (shopping) :).

An ideal cage for budgies is a flight cage. Most brands have the "standard" flight cage which is like Allee's, although hers looks deeper (front to back) than most. I believe these standard size flight cages by any of the brands that make them are 30" (about 76-77 cm). That is considered a comfortable and acceptable size for 2 budgies, or even one! Mink (and Chip when he joins her) have a 'double flight cage', which is like Allee's but like 2 as if they were side by side, and comes with a removable divider in the middle.

Another popular one for budgies is the Prevue Hendryx 040 https://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Produ...466450839&sr=1-5&keywords=prevue+pet+products

or Prevue Hendryx 050 which is even larger https://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Hendr...dp/B0002AQ228?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

*Please make sure whatever cage you get has the smallest bar spacing which is 1/2" (1.27 cm) :)

Cute cage! From looking at my budgies' heads, even the bigger English birds, their little skulls would probably even fit through a 1/2" but that's the smallest they make them anyway. Just be careful ;).

I was actually surprised one day when I had my standard sized budiges, and they fit their entire bodies through the bars of Raven's old cage 1" bar spacing! I was there supervising, so I saw it happen and was able to remove them right away, but all of a sudden there were 2 budgies in with Raven with his doors closed LOL at least Raven is not cage territorial.

Thanks Allee thats a Fab cage that Piper and Twinkle have...really nice. Hope they didnt argue sny more after moving into that Beautiful palace ...one of the things I worry a little about is the height of these cages and Elsa's toes and if by chance she ever lost her grip and fell but I think she would automatically go into flight mode if she started to fall.
Thanks RavensGryf I shall search around and see if there are any of the Prevue Hendryx flight cages available on this side of the world...I know the Liberta one can be delivered here and it appears to be somewhat similar...some of the ones Ive seen will only deliver to mainland UK and not to Ireland...its hard work searching for the right cage but its a lot of fun...the bit I dont like is when they arrive and have to be put together :)
I probably will opt for a flight cage but keep the ideas coming ...this is fun :)

We certainly dont want that to happen as Peter Pan could nip and I dont know what Mr Biggles would do but if he had a mind to he could kill a little Budgie ...they do need to be safe and secure...the Liberta Flight cage has the smallest spacing...just slightly less than the half inch being 9mm space between the bars. It might be the safest

I was looking at her website and she has some lovely cages but only one flight cage I saw and the bar spacing is a little large to safely keep a budgie safely inside as its fir a larger bird. Im not sure that she delivers to the Republic of Ireland though...alot of companies in the UK will not send heavey goods items to Republic of Ireland due to added travel costs. A Fabulous website though
