For those of you who have LARGE cages and you want to cover them (for training purposes) what do you use? I can make a cage cover but I'm wondering what people use who don't sew.

For example - when I am trying to teach my macaw to stop squawking and I need to cover the cage is it necessary to cover the entire cage...all the way to the bottom on every side?

Fly free Plum, my gorgeous boy.
I have a valance sheet and use some dark towels on the ends over that to stop light coming through (in the morning). Plum came to me with the valance sheet and seems to enjoy rushing over to pull as much into the cage after covering, it is one of his nightly rituals LOL. He seems happy with it so have left it for now.

My friend purchased a specially made black fabric cover and her conure has made a colander of it, more holes than fabric. I think something that will not shed fibres would be best, wdyt?

Fleece blanket for a king or cali king (depending on cage size). I believe there are some ebay and etsy vendors who sell custom made ones to your cages dimensions too.

I know they love pulling them into the cage as far as they can. :D My cockatoos will put a hole in anything so I don't usually cover them. Again, it is for training purposes more than night time cage covering.

For a cage that is big enough for a macaw it's a lot of material so I wan't sure I had to cover it all the way to the bottom of the cage.

My guys do not wake me up in the morning. They don't even squawk when the alarm goes off. They start squawking once they hear me get out of bed.

I would love to make a cover like the old time tents where you used rope to pull up the corners to the top. Maybe someday I will have time to make it for them...but for now...we need to do some training on being QUIET.
