Can you mend a broken cage?

Hi all!

Today while moving sooties cage around I caught a perch that I'd fixed to the outside on a wall and ended up twisting and mangling some of the bars on her cage. She's got a temporary cage for now but I'm wondering if there's a safe way to repair bird cages? Sooties really fond of her cage!

Sorry! I had seen your Thread earlier this afternoon, but life got busy.

If you are talking about twisted cross or vertical bars of the cage, in many cases they can be bent back into place. Care must be taken not to break any welds or worst the bars themselves. What you will be doing is reversing the twisting that occurred.

Pictures would be helpful. As long as you have not broken a weld(s) or bar(s) and are willing to go slow at the process, in 'most cases' its possible.

From experience I wouldn't do it again.

Plum's old cage had some bars come apart and hubby did temporary and as safe as possible repairs until I could locate a new cage that was at least similar to the old one. Little so and so would deliberately go and 'play' with the repair.
Bite the bullet and look for that new one IMO!

Tried to find a photo, but! I saw a project using seagrass weaved into the cage. I did a 2x2 foot area on the back of JoJo's cage, looks really nice. Lows carries a nice bundle of the sea grass rope.

Or, Try to make the area a play center! Cut a bunch of branches into lengths, depending on how big the damage. Tyewrap them into place. Do both the inside and outside. Sootie shouldn't be able to tear it up too quickly.
